How come when the astros finally get to sign the good pitcher, he starts to suck?!

The management here reallly sucks and Im getting pissed off.

Jose Lima is 1-5 so far and his recent game against the cubs ( KERRY WOODS DEBUT)lima gave up 10 runs in 4 innings. He gave a homer to KERRY WOODS!!! What the hell is his problem? The guy has lost his stuff.

I like the team alot but the pitching sucks. We need some good pitchers right now. The only thing that makes me glad about this team is Daryl Ward, because I know he will have a great future in the mlb. Also Octavio Dotel will be something bigggg. The guy is a great young pitcher that can pitch! He is really close freinds with Pedro Martinez and every summer pedro teaches him new things on his game.

I like Dotel alot, but Lima stinks.

Dont you guys love this ERA of lima. = 9.59

One of the callers had a great quote on the Jim Rome show yesterday. He said Romey may get a 2nd ball this year (last year Lima gave his #20 win ball to Romey), Limas #20 loss ball!

    It's Wood, not Woods.

Just like it's Mihm, not Mihms.

Just like it's Olajuwon, not Olajuwons.

And yes, Lima does suck, so does the rest of this team. While the management has made some questionable decisions this offseason (their hand was forced in some, plus we can't know the ultimate outcome for a few years), they can't control how a guy pitches or how the players hit or field.

Lima Time needs to go to the bullpen. I watched the cub game and you could see the batters watching the pitches as they crossed the plate. It was clear they were picking the pitches they wanted to swing at. I've never seen that. I'm not sure if he lost velocity, or movement, or he just can't keep the ball down low, but he'd better figure out what's wrong right away. He needs to be benched. He knows it too. One more start and then forget it. Dirk can't keep putting him out there. It's hurting the team. I say we bring that Eric Ireland kid and see what he's got. I heard he threw a no hitter last year.

Personally, I thought that Lima was overrated for a while. And it looks like Hampton was also. I see him everytime he pitches up here in NYC and the guy can't throw it over the plate to save his life.

There are whispers that he is heading towards Atlanta next year. I heard that a few weeks ago.

With the new stadium being called "Mini Coors", pitching won't be a staple for the Astros for years. Well, all new fields are homerun friendly so pitching will continue to fall into a deeper and deeper abyss.

Lima isnt much different a pitcher than he's always been.

    1. He's given up more gopher balls than Id like to remember over the previous 2 seasons.

Now this is substantial in that, while homeruns are being hit at a monsterous rate every year (anyone remember when 35 would win you the Home run crown about 10-15 years ago?) I think I read that the Astrodome gave up something like 40%fewer dongs than the average park. Imagine a pitcher thats one of the highest homerun yeilders who pitches half his games in a park that roughly gives up half the homeruns.

    2. Lima has done alot of pitching against the Cubs, at Wrigley, or at home in Enron (Coorsfield II).

Both of these places are dong-a-thon type fields. Did I actually read that the Astros homefield is averaging 4 dongs a game?! Lima may see his numbers improve as he gets away from Enron and Wrigley.

    3. Lima is a flyball pitcher.

The Astros would of been much, much more satisfied if they would of been able to pay Hampy (a ground ball hitter) instead of Lima the big bucks.

    4. Lima is not a blow you away pitcher.

Without a fastball that can at least reach into the 90's batters have leared that eventually Lima is going to bring that belt high changeup around eventually. Lima lives around the meat of the plate, which is why he's always given up major dongs.

ON another note...Could the Astros management of made many more mistakes with personnel over the last 6 years.

    Think about this.

    Curt Schilling

    Kenny Lofton

Brad Ausmus (remeber he's an all star now)

Ken Camminiti (during his bomb years)

Carl Everett. (Your eventual AL MVP)

Mike Hampton (I know hes struggling now, but I think hes coming around)

Bobby Abreau. He's just blowing up in Philly

Randy Johnson. I know some will say that he didn't want to stay

Hamala, Garcia...Both had wonderful seasons last year with the M's

Ricky Guitty. I know he was nothing special with the Astros but now hes breaking out with the Cubs. And he's 10 million times better than what Bogar is or could of ever been projected to be

Most of these guys were lost for little to nothing to show for it. Heck thats an all star team in itself basically.
