for one second, forget all your enthusiasm about what we are all going to get out of Ming. think, for just a moment, about what this whole experience must be like for him. looking at the different pics of him, I can't help but think about times when I've gone to a new place and started some new adventure of whatever kind. and what he's experiencing beats the everloving piss out of anything I've done. think about when you've been in brand new surroundings with new things to do and constantly meeting new people, whether it was college or whatever. he's in a city he's never been in before. every day, he probably meets 20 people he's never seen before. he has a new house. he's got money like he's probably never had money before. and, oh by the way, he's about to start living the life of an NBA rock star. how on earth will he be able to handle all the changes? I don't know. but I'm betting the week Yao Ming is living right now will be one of the most memorable weeks of his entire life.
You know he is. The first time I ever visited China, or any foreign country for that matter, I was so overwhelmed. Luckily, I was mostly on business and the people I was going to see alll spoke English. Not the same for Yao. It must be wild for him right now.
I've traveled a lot and your absolutely right, chevious. What an experience! Saying he's "...an NBA rock star." is dead on. He's lucky to be drafted by the Rockets. They'll do everything possible to help with the transition. After all, it's in their interest. I bet he's eager to share some of this with his girlfriend. I hope she's not caught in the same vortex of China's basketball program as Yao has been. Anyone know if she's coming to Houston to visit? His parents are here as well... it must be amazing for them.
Just going to college and meeting new people is weird enough at times. You know, those uneasy moments at the beginning of every relationship. I thought that was tough and I was speaking the same language as everyone else, eating the same foods I was always used to, and living the life I was so accustomed to. Yao Mings experience is on a completely different level. Im sure it will be a tough transition, but he will pull through.
hey, Manny. thanks for the welcome. RM95, I'm in for opening night. if there's a way to add beautiful babies to our beautiful basketball, I'm all for that.
