    Libertarian Reluctantly Calls Fire Department
    April 21, 2004 | ISSUE 40•16

02.15.10 CHEYENNE, WY—After attempting to contain a living-room blaze started by a cigarette, card-carrying Libertarian Trent Jacobs reluctantly called the Cheyenne Fire Department Monday. "Although the community would do better to rely on an efficient, free-market fire-fighting service, the fact is that expensive, unnecessary public fire departments do exist," Jacobs said. "Also, my house was burning down." Jacobs did not offer to pay firefighters for their service

This was a great joke article from The Onion! Of course, I'd be willing to bet that glynch took it seriously upon first glance. ;) Anything to get those darn libertarians right? Hehe

Pretty funny, but it does make a salient point re libertarians.

No, not really. You sure love to group all those evil libertarians together and assume things, huh?

Yes, it's funny. No it doesn't make a salient point about libertarians.

It was obvious to me the article was fake because it said he "reluctantly" called the FD. All the so-called libertarians I know would have called immediately and lied about it later online.

Uhhh...no it doesn't. You would like to think so because it makes you feel more correct. When I was 20 years old, I wanted to be in a hot tub with Julia Roberts. That didn't happen either.

If you actually believe in the system that is in place now, and if you thinks these (admittedly good) jokes are actually true.

she was cool - it was south by southwest my first year in austin (96) - me and my friend were about to smoke a doobie at a show at liberty lunch and we saw her by herself so we just went up and said hi - she was friendly and actually talking to us so we asked if she wanted to step outside w/ us and she did. we just pretty much talked about the bands we had seen and were going to see, but she seemed very down to earth and friendly (of course, we were the ones w/ the weed, so that probably helped  ).

So, you just publicly outed a celebrity for breaking the law? To even things out, you should publish your real name and occupation.

its austin holmes. most cops would have joined in.

but just so you dont think im 'outing' her here on clutchfans, here is an interview from her own website...

TALK: But I've heard that you enjoy your mar1juana.

JOVOVICH: I've had enough articles written about my pot smoking. I mean, it's crazy. We're adults now. I'm not going to comment on my pot smoking.

    http://www.millaj.com/art/talk1200.shtml

i dont recall how i knew she smoked pot, but we wouldnt have asked her if we didnt know she did - possibly from her role in dazed and confused, we knew she would at least not take offense to being asked. however, i do remember that the only reason we had the nerve to approach her was that we had a j we were about to smoke. that was our 'in'!
