Poll for liberals only. Who you want Obama to face in general election?

    Ron Paul.

The debates will at least bear some fruit. Obama would wipe the floor with anyone else.

    Perry.

It would have the most comedic outcome and Obama could save time and money just campaigning against Bush again.

I want to see Perry make a complete fool and ass out of himself... on a more grander stage.
Wouldn't it be nice to see a complete blow out in the elections?

As a consumer of political entertainment, any of the GOP candidates would be awesome. As a liberal, I really don't fear any of them. Of course, I didn't fear GWB either and I couldn't have been more wrong there. It is very hard though to imagine how any of the GOP field could mount anything approaching a serious challenge to Obama, however vulnerable he might be against a less flawed opponent.

Perry would be awesome because he has turned out to truly be the weirdest in the field -- not an inconsequential thing in a field with the awkward comedy stylings of Jon Huntsman and Mitt Romney.

Cain would be fun because it is amazing how emphatically he can say nothing, over and over again. This is pretty much his response to every challenge that comes his way, even when he is just asked to defend his own words, even hours after uttering them: "That is untrue because it is completely false. Secondly, anyone who says that is lying." He makes about 10 mistakes a day and when called on them he just says they didn't happen. And he's winning. That is awesome.

Romney would give Obama the surprising and remarkable gift of superior authenticity. The GOP would forfeit to the Democrats, for the first time in memory, the very important advantages they've traditionally enjoyed in the areas of "Who do you believe is the more sincere candidate?" and "Who would you rather have a beer with?" And Obama shouldn't be doing all that well on either of those questions. With Romney as his opponent, pretty much the whole nation has to hold their nose and admit that Obama is the superior "regular guy," "the guy you can trust to mean what he says." And don't even get me started on "who understands the problems of people like you." Should Romney be carrying the torch for a permanent ban on taxing the rich? I mean, he's pretty ****ing rich. Not to mention what a weak anti-Obamacare guy he would be. Pretty much the worst anti-Obamacare candidate in... the world? How did the GOP wind up with a frontrunner who is literally the worst anti-Obamacare candidate in the world? Also, though I've gone on too long already, he straps family dogs to the tops of cars for cross-country vacations. I understand that Obama's policies make some people think about Hitler and everything, but Romney straps family dogs to the tops of cars and then drives his family across the country. With a dog strapped to the roof.

My own hope is anyone but Mitt Romney because:

    (1) He is going to run the least entertaining campaign: He's smart enough to stay out of obvious mistakes and knows that best way to win is to stay boring and let the bad economy help him get votes. He's basically going to run a Jeff Van Gundy-style entertainment-free election.

    (2) He probably has the best chance of winning: Not just the current H2H numbers, but kind of related to the first point. Mitt is going to be slick and mistake free. Perry, Cain, Newt and anyone who has a chance at this point will likely play to the party base and, in the course of that, say something that make people concerned about their basic level of sanity/competence/human dignity. Mitt will not expose himself like that. I think a Romney vs. Obama election, assuming conditions stay roughly the same (i.e. slowish recovery on the economy ), is going to stay a 50/50 toss up like the polls say it is now. The other guys I can see drop from where they are polling h2h vs. Obama due to self-inflicted wounds.

About Romney and Huntsman: I think the thing is that they are both nice Mormon kids from rich families-- a little strange but basically you know they are harmless. Sort of like the missionaries that showed up at your door.

Re: Who do you want to have a beer with? It's a tie between Obama and Romney. Neither Muslims nor Mormons are supposed to drink beer. :)

I want to see Obama-Bachmann debates. That would be entertaining. Just think of all the stupid stuff she'd say.

Paul or Perry for the debates. Romney so it's not a runaway. To hear an Obama/Paul debate being interrupted by 7 seconds of loud applause every time Paul speaks would be awesome. Perry I assume by the 3rd debate would actually try and get physical, he'd make Nixon's debate performance look honorable.

*Did you guys know Cain and Gingrich are having a Lincoln-Douglas debate, tonight, in the Woodlands? I'm not a republican, but I would have LOVED to go to this thing.

I think it will be Romney.

I also think Obama will eek this out. The economy is the key issue but the Republican attempts to stop job bills is definitely going to give Obama some breathing room.

And with the OWS stuff I think people see the Republicans totally indifferent to the sufferings of the average person.

The gop party is just sad. I think Obama sucks. He has flip flopped on a lot of core positions he had. However I wouldn't consider any of the gop candidates.

Ron Paul or Gary Johnson vs. Obama would create a forum of actual debate over policy rather than the turdfest that characterizes most American politics. There would actually be a national debate over things like the role of the US military in the post-cold war world and whether or not drug law reform would weaken the drug cartels (among other things that don't really into any high level of debate and probably should).

When it's a matter of Perry or Romney vs Obama, it's the same old culture war b.s., a dumbing down of everything to incite the respective bases of both parties, and in general, partisan business as usual.

    Cain.

It might end any talk that Obama won 2008, because he was black.

I am loving me some Buddy Roemer, a real Republican reformer, not as crazy as Paul. So, he has no chance.

By the way, if you ever wondered what The Dube looks and sounds like, I'm pretty much a Buddy clone, pure East Texas/Louisiana bumkin.

I'm not done with Bachmann. So much high-octane stupid yet to be had. Her caffeinated re-packaging of GOP moralism would expose the "core" values for the peripheral ones that they actually are, and accelerate the defeat and redrafting of the conservative strategy that is inevitable after Obama wins.

Jon Huntsman, followed by Mitt Romney.

There's a pretty decent chance that Europe is going to completely crash the world economy by next year, and in that scenario, any GOP nominee has a very real chance of winning, no matter how crazy they may be. As such, I want the most sane/rational one.

    Bachmann or Perry.

I would enjoy seeing Obama make mincemeat out of either of them in a debate, and then win a landslide against either one.

Romney, I can accept him as president.

Don't like Obama's chances because of the economy. It doesn't matter who Obama is running against, if the economy recovers, he'll win, if not, he's out.
