I guess this announcement not really much of a surprise. This outfit has been on the path to failure since day one.

But now that Barack Obama is President, the anti-George Bush meme is wearing thin. And with Scott Brown being elected the new Senator for Massachusetts, any remaining sliver of a hope of passing the "Fairness Doctrine" is officially history. And now Air America is history as well.

[RQUOTER]Liberal Talk-Radio Station Air America Files for Bankruptcy, Will Go Off the Air

Air America, the liberal talk-radio network that helped boost the careers of Al Franken and Rachel Maddow, said Thursday that it was declaring bankruptcy and going off the air.

The company, founded in 2004 and based in New York, strove to provide left-leaning commentary and call-in programs as an alternative to such popular conservative radio talkers as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage.

It was troubled almost from the start. The company had difficulty lining up affiliates and attracting a sizable audience. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy-court protection just 30 months after its inception and was resold to an investor group in early 2007 for $4.25 million.

    ....

Since last summer, Air America has been heard in the Washington area on WZAA (1050 AM). Its audience has been so small that Arbitron, which compiles radio ratings, was unable to detect any listeners for WZAA during several weeks in December. [/RQUOTER]

As any reasonable person can see, Air America and liberal talk radio have not failed due to anti-competitive forces, but for lack of interest. No one wants to listen to their shows. That is all.

    Rest in Peace, Air America.

because unlike conservatives who need rush, glenn, sean or bill to lie to them, liberals can think for themselves.

    Dying in your dreams perhaps.

While we are on the topic, Fox appears to be largely owning the very much alive and well medium of cable news.

Here were the viewer numbers for election night:

This post is addressed to the individual posting as clutchfans.net user "MojoMan"

    Child, please.

The AM talk radio audience has declined something 30 percent since 2005....probably due to the fact that most of its listeners are aging fat slovenly shut-ins who are quite literally dying , due to poor healthcare.

I can think of a number of posters on this board who exemplify your typical AM radio junky. Aging white southern males in their late 50's.

Congratulations again on winning this medium.

it is a path to demographic dominance....

I wonder how much of the general population are male boomers from red states?

    I'd imagine it's pretty high.

Of course Faux "News" has more viewers. Fictional shows will always draw more people than factual ones, they are just more entertaining when you can make up whatever you want.

The majority of posters on this board listen to AM talk radio. I think we are all mostly quite young and fit except for yourself (?)

Yep. I tried listening to Air America a few times when it first came out and it was just awful. Franken's a good writer but it didn't quite translate to radio.

Liberals are aware that talking heads on talk radio are completely useless and a total waste of time.

Last time I checked, most of the talk radio updates discused here (which are almost entirely focused on sports) weren't listened to, but transcribed by DaDakota (who wasn't even listening over the airwaves).

ANyway why don't you post a poll to prove your theory. Thanks in advance.

Radio is dieing. A slow painful death that they don't want to admit.

They need to realize the internet is the way to go. On demand is the new American way.

This reminds me of when someone said USPS was losing money because government-run programs don't work.

No, genius, it's because people use something called the INTERNET to send their mail, instead.

Talk radio failing because no one listens to liberals? No, genius.
