On the NBA segment of ESPN, Rick Buechard (sp) reported that Lewis wants to come home to Houston. The deal would be a three way with Donyell Marshall going to Toronto, Byron Russell to Atlanta and Lewis to Htown. Only got a glimps of this not sure who Seattle would get.....
It would have to be Cato, Mo T or Glen Rice. The only contracts we have that would amount to the money Lewis would want. But who would want them?
If we get Lewis, assuming our core of Francis, Mobely, Griffin, and Ming remain intact, the future of our team has just risen to if not above the likes of the Clippers. We'll be in elite status in 2 years.
Who would Utah get if they give up both Marshall and Russell? I don't give a damn about those guys as long as they don't get better.
With Ostertag out, maybe they would be desperate enough to take Cato. I remember a while ago there was a rumor that Seattle was interested in Keon Clarke. Maybe that's who they would get from Toronto.
If a deal does in fact go through, I really hope that we are not going to pay Lewis the max. I don't want to tie up all that money in Rashard Lewis. No disrepect to Lewis but he does not deserve the max; there are only 10-20 players in this league that actually do deserve that much money. Rashard Lewis is not one of them. There are too many players as it is that are making the max, who do not deserve it. Oh well, all of this is a moot point, unless a deal goes through.
Personally I think Nachbar is going to be better than Lewis but if we could get rid of maybe Mo Taylor and Moochie for him I'm all for it. Me too. But if we can get him for a contract in the MoT range then I would rather have a Rashard Lewis at that price than a Maurice Taylor.
We owe this opportunity to Yao. This is just the beginning of players wanting to play here...the funny part is, we don't need them anymore. We are pretty much set except SF.
If we give up Rice and Kenny Thomas, I would go for that. That would be a great lineup: Francis, Moochie, Brown Mobley, Torres Lewis, Nachbar MoTay, Griffin Ming, Cato Look at the youth on this team. Definitely a dynasty in the making.
