I think we should try to trade them off cuz Glen Rice isn't being used to his full capabilities he needs a passing center to get him involved or even a passing forward.
Kenny Thomas will never be a consistant scorer he can have a hot game one night and be a non factor for the next 3 or 4 and he doesn't pass once he gets the ball his mind thinks score every damn time and lots of time he will try to do that spin move and make it bounce of the glass straight into an the opposing teams hands.
Maybe someone would be interested in these 2 for a player on someones bench that could actually help us.

Yao is a passing center. Why do you think Rice's good performance over the last two games have coinceded with Yao's? Its because when the opposing defence collapses on Yao, he would often pass out to the wide open Rice for the tre.

Kenny Thomas is another story though...

if you are a passing center you need 2 types of teammates:

    a slasher - Francis
    a spot up shooter- Rice

You need the spot up shooter to keep his man honest so the slasher can go to the hole.

You need the slasher to draw the defense so the spot up shooter can have the open look.

If Rice was not there, who would hit the open 3 on a consistent basis.

    This combination can be deadly.

I dunno but Rice needs a lil bit more mobility not that Griffin is much better in that catagory but he is consistant on his 3 pointer and can block shots.
I don't think they need Rice they need a more mobile SF that can drive and pass and a descent shooter.
Maybe Rice will show his worth during the season tho ya never know.

We need to keep Rice. He is one of the few veterans we have on the squad. He'll hit the three's with consistency, he's been doing it his whole career. He's got a sweet spot up shot, and I wouldn't trade him unless we got Mike Miller type player in return.

Rice is an old man with knee issues and a big contract. He's nobody's idea of someone to get, especially in the day of player-value statistics (pioneered by Bill James, but easily extrapolated to sports other than baseball).

If Rice can hit some shots from downtown he has value to the Rocks. But he's worthless as trade bait.

They work best in baseball for a reason. It's batter vs. pitcher. It's more of an individualized team game than basketball is/should be.

    What an obnoxious answer.

Anyway, I really like the way Glen Rice and Yao compliment eachother. Glen's shot is back, and he is ready to have a great year.

Player-value analysis is as much actuarial as worried about detailing every value of a player to the Nth degree (though obviously, knowing how value is retained as a function of age helps).

If you know that few than 20% of all forwards are still in the league at age 37 and few than 15% are in the league at age 38, you should realize you have a 25% risk of losing a 37 year old after a year if you sign him on. This is true whether or not you can statistically disambiguate his offensive and defensive contributions.

Rice is an older player. He has health issues. He's expensive. Ideal trade bait is a young guy in robust health with an undervalued contract.
