I love people that have no idea that the NBA has a salary cap and that you just can't sign anyone you want. They always add so much to the discussion. Considering the tradeable assets and the salary cap situation of the Rockets, I feel we've already had a very solid offseason with the addition of Battier, V-Span, Casey Jacobsen, Kirk Snyder, Novak, and JL III. A lot of people will bash these signings because they are not marquee players, but they show that the Rockets are at least attempting to address some of the problems we had last season (outside shooting and athleticism). I am a little concerned by the fact that the only backup center we have on our roster right now is Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean Jacque Wamutombo.

Because it's determined by quality, not quantity. Starting posts like this with their first post on the boards leads to a long time as a rookie.

Just to put this to rest,

The rules state that if you are over the salary cap, you are not allowed to sign new players. Only way to acquire players is via a trade (of which we have nothing to offer) or with an exception (which we've mostly used on VSpan, Novak and JL3).

So in short, it is virtually impossible for us to acquire Bonzi Wells.

The Rockets being cheap has nothing to do with it.

Barring a big trade, this roster is pretty much set.

We are not ABLE to just sign anyone even if we are willing to "pay damning tax." The CBA prohibits teams from signing a player to more than the veteran's minimum with a few exceptions...

    1) Mid-level exception: We have already spent most of this on our signings of VSpan, Snyder, and presumably Jacobsen and JLIII. At most, we would have about 2 million, which Bonzi would not play for.

    2) Low-level exception: Only avalable every other year and we used it last year on Derek Andersen. Even so, it would be about 1.8 million, which Bonzi would not play for.

    3) Trade exception: This one is more do-able, but only if the Kings and Bonzi want to play ball. This is worth about 4.2 million, which is far less than the 8 million Bonzi turned down when the Kings offered it. So, Bonzi would have to be willing to take less than any other team's MLE, the Kings would have to be willing to basically give us Bonzi for a future draft pick, and the Rox would have to believe that Bonzi has recovered from his knuckleheaded past.

    Not bloody likely.

    Thanks. It is so clearly.
Why not rockets try to extend the cap by some methods and plans like Mavs?

I don't think you can extend the cap. Luxury taxes, etc are by resigning your own players for some ridiculously amount of dollars and then sending them off as trade bait and longer years!?

Les is stupid, he should just go over the salary cap and buy some good players. In the end, with more wins he can make more money.

Mavericks Payroll: $89,917,014 Cap Room: $-36,782,014
Rockets Payroll: $57,904,034 Cap Room: $-4,769,034

    Mavericks Payroll = 1.5 * Rockets Payroll
That's why Mavs is stronger than Rockets ?

considering the rockets didnt have much to work with they have signed some potentially good players, or at least the rockets signed players that fit a need...how good they are is another story.
