That when the Rockets won their 2nd championship of the back to backs we were the 6th seed. We're gonna be 5th seed this time. And we know we're good enough to be a 2 seed. STAY POSITIVE AND JUST BELIEVE. As long as we keep cheering, the Rockets will keep going. Rockets can still go all the way.
Nice comparison, but the only problem is that we've been the 5th seed the past 2 years with the fourth best record... and I think we all know how the rest goes.
I don't think we have such meltdown in such a crucial game when we were 6th seed back then. The problem now is the game with Dallas, we were leading 14 pts and we cannot fight on for 1 and the half quarter with smart and right plays. Instead, we became selfish, thinking that the game is in hand probably.
My point is that nobody believed in them back then and nobody is believing in us now. We have just as much talent as any other team in the NBA. We have a top center in Yao We have a top defender in Battier We have a top defender/a player who can be a scorer if he aint crazy in Ron We have a top hustle player in Scola/Landry/Hayes We got a great bench with Lowry, Wafer, Landry Nobody would even be this negative if we were never in position to have the 2 seed anyway. Why not cheer on your team anyway? Lets go Rockets!
I want to believe that but then I look at our team and then I do this We had the dream and Clyde back then. We had shooters from hell like Elie, Horry, Smith, Bullard and Sam I Am. This team has a slow center, a madman in Artest, no pg and a 42 year old backup center ! I want to believe but not with this team !
Actually that team, did. They never really put it together for much of the season. Never consistently played with great chemistry. Some of that was due to Hakeem's injury, but not all of it. However, I see no one on this team who can help out our big man as Drexler did then.
Thank you to the OP 14 years ago a team nobody expected to do anything did something special. They had a dominant center, great team chemistry, and an unshakable confidence. Doesn't that team remind you of another team we are currently rooting for? I guarantee there is nobody in our locker room right now that doesn't believe they can do great things. We have shown resiliency all year and bounced back from situations most people have counted us out of. To even be in this position after all we've been through is a testament to that. I'm not predicting anything, but I just want you to believe that anything is possible.
The only similarity between this team and the '95 team is that they both didn't have Home Court Advantage.
We had a guy named Clyde Drexler at the time who was much more than a glorifed jump shooter aka Ron Artest. If we had a healthy McGrady, I would be right with you on this one. We will beat the Blazers, but fall to the Lakers. If we had of gotten the secon seed, we could have taken care of Dallas, build some momentum against the Nuggets or Hornets. then I would have been much more confident against the Lakers. Instead it will take 6 games to beat the Blazers without homecourt, then we will run into the Lakers who will sweep the Jazz.
I think that 90s team knew how to finish the last few mins of a game--not this team--well at least not tonight. Now we did almost sweep the blazers had it not been for a BR fluke 3 pt shot and the last game was a 14 pt beat down. Having said that, how do we beat the yao fronting, how do we keep ron from jacking up crzy threes and who will create for us in the clutch--v. wafer?
