Just curious about two things. If you had the opportunity to trade Yao Ming for one player, straight up, with no other considerations, how many current players would be on your list? What about Francis? But for Francis, let's keep it to point guards. If you had to swap Francis for a point guard straight up, how many people would be on your list?
Why? Is this not a legitimate question? From reading this board over the past 24 months, it's certainly not a topic that's been covered ad nauseum in comparison with such offerings as: 1. Who's the leader on this team, Steve or Yao? 2. Why did the Rockets make the stupid Eddie Griffin trade? 3. If Karl Malone would not have bear-hugged Clyde Drexler and the Rockets would have gone on to win the Western Conference, would they have beaten the Bulls? 4. Do you think we should get rid of Moochie? I don't know, but at least I asked a question that might generate some thought-provoking responses, I.E. how much do you weigh potential over current skills, do you trade for a player who might be better now (Shaq) but who might be on the downside, etc. If you want, I'd be more than happy to start a thread about the Rockets ISO offense.
I assume this is just for fun, so I'll play along. But by no circumstance to I really want to trade Steve or Yao for anyone. In Steve's case I think I would look at point guards like Baron Davis, Jason Kidd, Allen Iverson (to play the point), Gilbert Arenas, or Lebron James (also to play the point). Nonetheless, Steve is still quite young, has a bright, long future ahead of him, and has as much or more talent than all of these players listed. IMO. Therefore, it would be very difficult to even measure him against any of these other players. I honestly believe the Rockets couldn't be in a better position, as far as point guards go, than w/ Steve Francis. Yao Ming is even more troublesome to do this with because the sky is truly the limit for him. He has the physical tools to dominate and the mind to do it with. He's a smart player, he's witty, and nice, he puts the team ahead of individual gains, and he's an international icon. But if I had to trade him for someone it would be for guys like Tim Duncan, Nowitzki, Garnett, and Kobe Bryant. Maybe these players are a little lofty right now, but mark my words: in 2 years Yao will be a dominant force and will be more than worth any of these players and more! So, trade denied. Let's go ahead and keep Yao. Let's go ahead and keep Francis.
Sorry....that was rude. Didn't mean it that way. I would only trade Steve for Kidd...Steve has too much upside.
Well, Eddie Griffin has 'upside' so I don't think it's THAT much of a stretch to say you'd trade Steve for those players.
Point guards I'd be willing to take back for Francis: Iverson, Kidd. Players I'd be willing to take back for Yao (and not feel like I've been robbed): McGrady, Nowitzki, Duncan, Garnett, J. O'Neal, Kidd, James, Iverson. I wouldn't take Shaq (who doesn't have much longer in this league) nor Bryant (who might have to take an unexpected leave of absence -- plus I just don't like him).
The only reason that Francis would be traded is if he refuses to obay the wishes of the Coach and the Club. He could be traded when he is past his prime. NO TRADE! Yao Ming, Star of Stage Screen and International Basketball, currently performing for the Houston Rockets. Locked solid betwen Les and China..... ,,NO TRADE
np. But if I had to trade SF, those 3 would be the only ones on my list of guys I would want back for a straight up trade. They, along with GP(who is way too old to give any consideration to) are the only pgs who are stevie's peers as far as overall talent is concerned. And it's not as if Marbury and Davis are void of their own significant upside.
No, we definitely need a thread in which Steve says, "I like children. It's really touching to see a child wearing one of my jerseys, knowing they look up to me like that. I hope to have children one day." and then have Chad Ford write in one of his "insider" articles: [/i]...and here's what Steve Francis has to say about children. He said, "I like...touching...children"[/i]... Which, of course, will turn into 15 "Steve Francis is a child molestor" threads...
You would trade Yao straight up for Iverson? His best seasons are far past him. If the Rockets offered Yao for Iverson right now, the Sixers would be jumping for joy. I would consider trading for the other players, but I probably wouldn't pull the trigger on the trade except for Duncan and Garnett.
Yao - KG, Duncan, (maybe) C. Webb SF- Kidd I dont think any1 would do this so im happy with steve n yao right now, they have bright futures with tha rockets let em B
