All our bench players suck except for Mooch. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
I don't know what to say about the rest of it. I just wanted to be sure to record that we can't all agree that Rudy makes horrible draft decisions. I think he does a pretty good job. In many ways, the draft is a crap shoot and many drafted players, even from the first round, don't pan out. Sure, he's let some guys slip through his fingers, but that happens to everyone. Every team passed on Lewis at least once when he was available. But Rudy has done a good job of finding some diamonds and has, on a number of occassions, dodged some headaches. I doubt he's going to "blow it" with these 3 picks (or however many we actually pick with). ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
You do realize, don't you, that had the Rockets drafted Lewis then the whole dynamic of the tem may have changed? That means that Francis may not have become a Rocket. Heck, they may not have even drafted Mobley if they had drafted Lewis. They may have kept Pippen around another season to further "tutor" Rashard, or Chicago may have insisted upon Lewis in the Pippen deal. There are a lot of things that could have and would have happened differently had Lewis been drafted instead of Drew or Turckan. It is far from definitive to say that the Rockets would currently have Mobley, Francis, Hakeem, Taylor and Lewis. ------------------
No offense, but is this worth starting a thread for? Your title doesn't make much sense given the context of your post and you haven't said anything other than we need some effective big men (preferably Webber) and we should get rid of Walt and Cato, with a side order of Rudy-makes-poor-draft- decisions. We've got a million threads relating to offseason moves. It would be nice if we could focus our thoughts in existing threads instead of starting new ones to say just about the same thing everyone's been saying for the past couple months. I'm sorry if this comes across mean. I don't mean anything by it. ------------------
I was up in arms when Rudy drafted Collier. I assumed that last year's draft was filled with very good players, but not many actually panned out. Heck, we were all drooling over Swift, and he looks like he may be a bust. In hindsight, Rudy may have done the right thing. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This off-season will be critical to the Rockets future. Rudy did pass on Lewis, but he tends to go with college players with a few years under their belts. I'm confident that Rudy and CD will do their homework in this draft. I would like to see if we do keep all or more than one of our picks that the Rockets take a chance on a young player or even a high school player. The Rockets need some big help up-front if they want to have a chance to make the playoffs next year ------------------ take it one day at a time
Name a team, aside from the Lakers, that has a better draft record than the Rockets, considering where the picks were made. The Lakers are the only one I can think of, and the GM who did all that has retired. ------------------ Founder and President of the Houston Homers Club(HHC) - Are you a homer? Join now! Agreed. Rudy excels between the mid-first and mid-second rounds. Case in point: Othella Harrington and Cuttino. I'm not completely sold on his skills when picking 5-15 in the first round (1-4 are usually no-brainers), but I'm quite willing to give the benefit of the doubt. ------------------
1-4 are usually no-brainers. Tell that to Portland who drafted Bowie over Jordan. ------------------ "Of course, thats just my opinion, I could be wrong" -- Dennis Miller [This message has been edited by Hydra (edited May 01, 2001).]
Yeah its called advertising, or selling your product, "my title to this thread" um, if i just put for a title "same ol ****" who would come in and read it, its called thinking ahead =) I personally think with the exception of very few, he has wasted the draft picks we get, we always get these polished white guys ( i am white) that end up cut or in Europe. I disagree strongly about Francis and Lewis. Steve came out the next year, we gave away Othella, Dickerson, a draft pick, and that scrub , I cannot even think of his name, oh yeah Brent Price right? We would have not included Lewis, that would have been done, they didnt ask for Mobley, they knew we wouldnt give him up, if we trade for somebody good this year, are we gonna involve Francis, HELL NO.....so we would have pulled the switch on the Francis trade easily and still had Lewis. We may have not had Mo Taylor is all ------------------ got milf?
I believe if the rockets would have drafted Lewis, Vancover would have probably asked for him in the deal. And we may not have gotten steve. ------------------
ok, this is probably gonna be the biggest offseason for the Rockets in years, *duh* a no brainer, but BUT!!! Lets all hope to God in Heaven, that the ROckets wont blow this one. Now while Rudy T. is a great coach and mentor and teacher and friend on and off the court, I think we can all agree that his drat decisions are horrible, (case in point) we could right now have a team with Mobley, Francis, Hakeem, Taylor and Rashard Lewis. But oh hell no, we draft drew, and Mirsad Turkan, and well look where those two bad boys are, so I believe ( i do believe Rudy T. has the say over the draft) that his decisions have been horrible, SURE!!! he got us Mobley and Cassell, and that is awesome, but that is it. NOw I really hope we can go after Webber, BECAUSE contrary to what I hear and read on this board, I go to other places like the papers and websites like ESPN, and I watch news stations on the dish, Webber hasnt one time ruled out Houston. NOW IF he DOES, then ok, we go elsewhere, we better go after some big, power guys, guys who can defend against Wallace and O'neal and McDyess, We do need to ship off some problem areas (CATO, WILLIAMS) but GOD if anybody really watched LOs, they would know he came in his 6 minutes and did really really well, he handled his own against Wallace for damn sure. Get rid of Bullard, he doesnt do anything at all, that Langhi cannot do . I could go on forever, but why bother, get back to me on your thoughts, seriously , though lets make sense here with our offseason moves ------------------ got milf?
I hope to god I'm not the only one who thinks we should keep Bullard for next year. Bull ia a Rocket lifer. I don't see why we wouldn't want him, he takes up no space, he sits on the bench, never complains and comes to play (sometimes) and hits big threes. Remember that one game where he hit like eight threes! ------------------
yeah ok, its 50-50 here , we may have had to include Lewis in the trade, we may not have had too...bottom line is, we never got that chance ------------------ got milf?
ricky812, You bring up a good point about Lewis and Vancouver probably asking for him in the Francis deal. But then again, maybe if Lewis is in the deal, the Rocks don't have to move Dickerson or Othella. ------------------
The term Rocket for Life doesn't mean much when u look at the fact that Hakeem probably won't be. . . Rocket River WE STILL HAVE RUDY!! ------------------
yeah if we do a sign and trade with Sacramento then I am sure Francis will be included, so we are F*cked , um NOOOOOOOOOOOO we are not idiots, and neither are they, Francis wasnt going to play in Vancouver, so instead of them watching him hold out and never report, or eventually end up leaving a free agent, which would have never happened, he would have gotten his way, cmon a number 2 pick in the first round....they realized they better get something instead of nothing....... HENCE our 4 guys that would have not involved LEwis in my personal opinion ------------------ got milf?
