I would like to see Cuttino get the backup point guard minutes. Cat, Anderson, and Langhi could all get more playing time. Also, I think that our defense would improve if we played better team defense with bigger guards (like L.A.).

Cuttino is not a PG, despite the fact the Rockets tried playing him there for a season. If you put him there, you will destroy his effectiveness. You could get more minutes for Francis by playing him at center too, but you don't because it will not be effective. I know that is exaggerating it a bit, but my point is don't expect Mobley to be near the same player as a PG. And if Mobley goes to PG, who backs up Shandon at SG? We'd be empty handed. And I don't think Cuttino would exactly be a big help to our defensive problems, despite his height, which even for a PG isn't that great.

I have to agree with TB. I think his point is that we would have a three guard rotation rather than four. Moochie is not all that. the line-up would look like this.(Franchise-Anderson-Wizard or Langhi/ Franchise-Cat-Wiz or Langhi/ Cat-Anderson-Wiz or Langhi.

The only problem that I would have is if one of the guards gets injured. We would not have the quality backup if that were to happen.

And plus Moochie is not going to demand minutes. Thats why Rudy didn't go out and get a stud to backup Stevie because he knows
Steve will play about 40min a game next year.
Drew on the other hand is wasting a roster spot on this team.

Give Cat the opportunity and he could do it. That was an experiment in his rookie season. He would do a much better job now. In either case, we have excellent guards(wow! how times change) and that is not our weakness anyways.

I agree with The Cat. Without 3 hall of famers in the front court, Mobley would be an very poor PG. For one, he'd shoot FAR too much. Norris is really much better suited to the position. We need to dispense with Norris OR Drew... but certainly not both.

Cat, Harper and Jordan weren't point guards either. Jordan often brought the ball up court, and his effectiveness did not suffer. I realize that Cuttino is no Michael Jordan, but the Rockets need to get their best players on the floor for more minutes.

BigBoy, you are right, we would need another backup two guard. I would prefer a bigger, defensive minded player, like Brian Shaw. I would even like to see Rod Rhodes given another shot. I wonder if Rod is still quick??

The point is that these players would not be the best players if played out of position. The Bulls/Lakers used the triangle offense, which is not dependent on having a strong PG with good PG instincts. Our offense to a large extent is.

Cuttino Mobley is a shooter and a scorer, plain and simple. You put him at point guard, not only do you have the dilemma of him shooting too much for a PG, but you hinder his game by wanting him to run the show, thus not being able to shoot enough. I know that sounds contradictory, but a PG's first priority is to run the offense, move the ball, and score when necessary. Cat is good at one aspect of that...scoring.

    Keep Cat at the two.

I tend to agree with TB3,

The Rockets are in a difficult situation with both Shandon and Cat fighting for the 2 spot minutes. Maybe playing point is going to diminish Cat's effectiveness, but if it means more minutes, its worth it.

You guys are saying that we should find the players to fit the system. I say we find the right system to fit our players. If we need to run a triangle offense to get our best players on the floor for more minutes, lets do it. We have three dynamic, athletic, and talented guards in Steve, Cat, and Shandon. Lets find a way to use them, and quit giving minutes to CBA guards like Drew and Moochie.

Cat is way too eratic to play the point.

No way Cuttino will get any major minutes at the point and I think alot of people are going to be surprized this season.I think Moochie is going to be a good player in this league and will be a pretty good backup.

Shandon will get some minutes at the 3. Cuttino will get some minutes at the point. I don't think there is a problem with our backcourt so please don't make one up.

Moochie is a good back up pg.

How are Cat and Shandon not averaging enough minutes? Didn't they each average 30 minutes a game?

Moochie is fine where he is.

Moochie was smokin' in the RMR. I think he was 1st or 2nd in assists. He and Langhi had *great* chemistry.

If Cat played point, he would just try to pass to himself all the time [IMG]

Rod Rhodes? where is he? i loved him although he needed a better j-shot, but he was very athletic and a good defender i always thought with playing time he could turn into a guy who gets the quiet 13-15 ppg. There was a stretch when we were injury depleated hakeem, chcuk, and drex were all out and he started and collected like 14 ppg as a rookie, hes really pretty good, we lost him 4 sam mack right?

I think we need to get rid of one not both. Moochie has proven more effective but Drew hasn't had the minutes to develop. Drew, on the other hand, has an upside and "trade value".

If this thread is about clearing two roster spots: get rid of one and get rid of Bullard. My gawd, he's overpaid and he can't move. Langhi looks to take his spot on the roster.
