I am not sure anyone could have predicted the level of "underachievment" from player to player that this team displayed this year.

One thing that I did predict was that our dominent players would have trouble changing their game to play a Big Mans Game. I blame the Coaches more than the players because they let this season happen the way it did.

[q]44-38. 7th or 8th seed in the playoffs and lose in the first round to Kings or Lakers but put up a good fight in pushing the series to 5 games.

Yao Ming will be first team all-rookie but not ROY.

Steve will get some MVP votes and show his impoved leadership skills. Im thinking hell start the All-Star game again.

Mobley will see his numbers drop off slightly and will struggle in the new offense due to his lack of passing skills and desire.

Griffin, barring injury or poor play, will start most of the season at the 4 and put up solid numbers, setting himself up for the jump to superstar status in 2003-2004. This year, I see him as an all defensive team candidate.

Either Rice, Taylor or Cato will be gone by the end of the year.

Suprisingly, we will be at the bottom of the league in attendance again this year.

This is how I see it. [/q]

Man, I was right on the money in the first part of my predictions but kinda blew it there at the end. :p

Pole had a hell of a prediction in there. He was right on the money.

New Yorker made some good ones too (even though RocketsMillenium disagreed with im at the time :p ).

I don't think there was a single accurate pick except this one:

    (Will they draft a guard?)

The Las Vegas over/under wins for this season is 45 wins. I take the under. My estimate is they will go 40-42 and miss the play-offs. Why? Because of the "good old boy network" within the organization. Moochie is Steve's boy, so he got big bucks and a three year contract last year. But his actual play does not measure up. I figgure that he will cost the team 5-6 games this season, due to excessive dribbling, bad clock management, innappropriate shots taken, lack of passing to the open man, and minutes demanded (which keeps a better player out of the game.)
Also contributing to poor performance is RT's "deer in the headlights" game managing (just like in the past.)
    Sorry folks, just being realistic.

    Rudy damned if he does...

Some posters had given pretty good analysis and prediction, such as "New Yorker".
It's painful to read those optimistic predictions. It's more painful to read those pessimistic ones because the problems they had pointed out were displayed glaringly right before our eyes throughout the season. And it's unbelievable that some people thought Cat was going to be an all-star.

Suppose RT and his crew don't go, are you going to predict a 50+ win next season (2003 -2004)? Thinking about this question makes me sick.

I didn't read through all those predictions. But wasn't this one right on the money except the injury one?

I somehow missed this prediction thread but in others I thought they would win about 45 games and make the playoffs. I also thought Yao would average around 13ppg and 7-8rpg.

They could still win 43 games so that wasn't so far off, but of course missing the playoffs was the big dissapointment from a team view. I think Yao exceeded expectations (and will continue to exceed expectations next season). I think the big dissapointments were Eddie Griffin (no development on offense) and Bostjan Nachbar (no PT and thus no contribution). I think Moochie's play was a let down, as was the lack of a SG off the bench.

Wasn't there an "official" predictions thread - before pre-season?

Pasox2, your correct... in this one, I just went with the prediction I made in the "official pre-season prediction thread", still feeling the same way. I picked 50-32, based on the team being healthy, plus Yao and Nachbar, and improving 5 games over 2 years ago.

I like my crow grilled... easy on the salt. There's enough rubbed into the wounds from this season already.

(we DID draft a guy named Nachbar... didn't we??)

    I agree, Pole's was good.

How about this quote by RocketsMillinium tearing into someone else's prediction.

<i>"No disrespect, but I can't take a post seriously that has the Suns winning 44 games and making the playoffs. </i>"

    Phoenix won exactly 44 games.

    LOL!

Most people predicted wins in the 50+ range.
    Some predicted 45+ wins.
Only 1 predicted 43, another 44 and those 2 said they had pessimistic view of the Rockets.
How sad that they turned out to be right!!! :(

I didn't post but I found an email I sent to a buddy at that time where I said...

"I really do think the Rockets CAN make the playoffs but a lot is up in the air with Yao, the overcrowded power forward spot, injuries, etc. If I had to bet on it, I'd say 44 or 45 wins and we barely miss the playoffs, but the optimist in me thinks we'll slide into the 8th spot..."

    :)

I predicted 44 -38 while the acual was 43 -39. Even though I was close to my expectations - I cannot remember a more disappointing season.

I predicted Eddie to be the highest scorer and also for the rockets to finish third or forth in the west. 1 out of 2 aint bad.
