We all keep hearing that Steve wants to be an all around complete player. That he loves to pass the ball and get some assists. But, let's be realistic now. Francis has been with the team since 1999. That is 4 years, and he has yet to become an efficient passer. Francis is a scorer first and a passer behind his rebounding. That's right, and asking Francis to pass might actually hurt this team, because Francis is such a good scorer.

I really think that last summer was the perfect opportunity to get the point guard the Rockets needed. Jason Williams as the number one pick. And Mobley could have been traded for Odom. But, now the problem is trying to get a good quality point guard for Mobley. Mobley is the end of all passing in the Rockets offense. As I see the action developing in a game, passing is practiced up until Mobley touches the ball, then he shoots without any hesitation of the number of defender on him or his shot difficulty.

Essentially if we put it in a formula who would dispute this: Francis > Mobley. Enough Said.

Francis want's to be a Shooting guard, then his buddy Mobley will suffer the consequences, because Mobley sure as heck isn't a point guard. He proves it night in an night out. If you dispute this, just watch the next game and see how he rains the shots.

And Mobley is a fine Shooting Guard. He does what his position asks, but 1 shooting guard is enough. And in my book Francis wins out.

    OH COMMON.

Why didn't you just post this in the other 300 similar threads ni the past week?

Forget 4 years, this has been beaten to death since the start of the season.

Francis hasn't been the best passer in the NBA so far, AGREED, but give him time. For a PG, it's the 4th season that counts.

From my years of surfing this site it ranks up there with:
    (in no particular order)
    1) Hakeem should retire (then after he left us) it went to Hakeem is a traitor.
    2) Cato sucks.
    3) Pippen Quitten
    4) Karl Malone is evil
    5) And a plethora of Dan Langhi threads.

Hey there's nothing wrong with beating the old horse if it's true. We should do what Brown did for Iverson. An Aaron Mckie would do just fine for this team although I wouldn't trade Mobley for him unless we got two first round picks and 5000 Philly cheesesteaks, too.

Can I get another GOOD LAWDY?!

I am so sick of these weak " Trade Cuttino" threads. Cuttino is extremely crucial to the development of the Rockets. He comes to play every night, and that's more than most of the entire team can say. Everyone should be thankful that Mobes is on the Rockets. Can you imagine what it would be like without him? Where would the points come from, other than Francis? Mobley is like Pippen to Jordan(Francis). That's a major role.

Larry Brown didn't want to make Iverson a SG Iverson ball-hogged to the point that he became a SG. So Brown moves him to SG and Iverson is banged up facing bigger players when Iverson should be a PG.

I don't think we should trade anybody...but your statement makes a little more sense to me than the other 300: Francis>Mobley. I won't dispute it myself. Francis is a greater point guard than Mobley was before him. Francis is a better shooting guard when we go 3 guard than Mobley is. Why trade Francis ever? Screw a point guard, the man is one of the top 3 guards in the league.

    READ BEFORE YOU POST

Yeah, we should trade a guy who agreed to stay with us for way less money than he could have gotten on the open market and who has great chemistry with our other backcourt star for an overpaid, underachieving, egotistical player who is going to demand the max when his contract is up.
Steve is a great point guard, Cat is a great shooting guard, why trade either?

Yes he is and it makes me wonder if some of you out there even know what's going on with the team and really honestly follow the team. If you did you would know that as of now he is in fact our second best player and there is no shame in that all things considered, Steve is mvp material after all.

He's one half of the best and most explosive backcourts in the NBA and that's as good as being a great SG in my book.

Where else is there such a clamor to trade a player who puts up 20 a game, is young, and has great chemistry with the best player on the team.

In an ideal world, that player would have great chemisty with the ENTIRE TEAM, not just the best player on the team...

Rocksmellinium, please give us a list of your "great" shooting guards so we can do a statistical comparison. If you don't like the great label, then give us a list of those shooting guards that you think would be better suited to this team.

    Let's waive Zacatecas....

Why would anyone want to trade a guy hitting 20-25 points a game and playing all star basketball? Maybe because they have their head up their @@@...

Steve is not a point guard. Mobley brought the ball up several times. There isn't a defined PG/SG on this team except Mooch.

This is sooooooooo tired.............

I seem to remember that vintage Pippen played outstanding team ball -- fantastic defense, filled the passing lanes, good assist numbers, ran the break as well as anybody, and in general helped to make others around him better. If Cat is filling Pippen's role, he's doing a lousy job.

"Most of the entire team" shows up every night as well -- but generally Cat and his lover Francis generally won't let the others play with them.

Seriously though, I don't think we should trade Cat. He does a great job of putting up points. I criticize him in the hope that someday -- soon -- he elevates the other areas of his game, and that he really can function as a Pippen of sorts.

[That last paragraph is in deference to all the hate-bashers (meta-haters?), for whom criticism of the team is anathema.]
