WE know:- 1]At least 30 persons were interested. 2]They interviewed only 4 and were complete. 3]Larry Brown and Mike Dunleavy were the only positive ones. 4]Larry Brown is hoping to hear back from the Rockets. 5]Detroit has given out mixed messages about hiring Larry Brown. 6]Detroit has made a number of different anouncements about their Press Conference. 7]The financial offer from the Pistons to Larry Brown has changed from $8 mil to $5mil /year. 8] The Rockets have been extra cautious about their decissions, since Calvin Murphy leaked some info. several years ago. 9]Clutch knows that the Rockets made an offer to Brown. In conclusion I ask was Larry Brown talking to the Rockets in BAD FAITH ? Also that dont hold your breath about this matter it wont be a surprise but it might be a shock!
Yetti....they say the contract that Larry Brown will sign with the Pistons will be $30 million for 6 years....plus bonuses and crap that will amount to about $8 mil per year. And describe #8 to me please. Also...Silas is going to Cleveland. Jeff Van Gundy or Mike Dunleavy. Hopefully Rick Carlisle.
Answer: NOTHING It's just people's biases b/c they've seen Rick take the Pistons to the Central crown. However, Rick has some glaring "relative" weaknesses compared to JVG AND Dunleavy that people fail to mention. For example... 1. Rick's experience has been focused on the Eastern Conference. By my recollection, the Pistons did not fair well against the West. 2. Rick has limited to no experience in working with a big man 3. Rick relies on "effort ball" to compensate for his team's lack of talent. 4. Rick nearly blew it in the first round against the Magic 5. If any coach has demonstrated lack of offensive creativity, it's Carlisle. Don't let his success with the Pistons fool you into thinking he's a stellar coach. Lest our memories be so short, the Pistons came VERY close to getting upset in the first round by T-mac and Co. Moreover, their 4 and out performance against the Nets was absolutely pitiful. Carlisle belongs on one of the many teams that are LIMITED in talent. Carlisle should stick with working with workmen and bruteball. Finesse players like Yao would just drive him crazy. Houston needs a coach who understands what it means to cultivate franchise players, or rather, TWO franchise players. Maybe Carlisle has it in him to do so, but if you're looking for demonstrated success, then JVG and Dunleavy are the better candidites to put your money on. theSAGE
A lot of that is likely true from what I've seen, but don't forget that he coached the offense for the Pacers team that made it to the finals against the Lakers a few years ago. Ask Larry Bird: he'll tell you himself that his two assistants did all the work. I think making it to the finals as an assistant is another positive to go with his taking an less-than-hugely-talented team to the Eastern Finals. At this point, I'd be equally happy with Carlisle and Van Gundy, assuming Brown is gone. I don't want Mike "Don't Rock the Boat" Dunleavy.
Actually the Pistons and the Nets were the only two teams in the Eastern Conference to have an above .500 record in the regular season against the Western Conference teams. In addition the Pistons absolutely manhandled the Rockets in the regular season. A record of 15-13 in the Western Conference, which ties the same record that the Nets pulled. The Rockets record in the West was exactly .500 with a 26-26 record.
SageHare6, Everything you said applies to Van Gundy as well. Rick Carlisle is an OFFENSIVE coach. YOu say he compensates for talent with hardwork, as if that's a BAD thing. Imagine Moochie Norris had this quality in him? If Rick Carlisle AND his ENTIRE coaching staff came to Houston, he'd be my top choice at the moment. If not him, then Mike D is probably the best coach for this team.
