Let's play coach, and evaluate some game tape. Since so many people are downloading the game videos and highlights by Rockets2K (THANKS!), I think it would be fun, informative, and humorous to write our own views on certain portions of the game tape. Inbetween games, we can help each other learn about what went on in the last game, offer our suggestions on how to make things better by showing exactly what we are talking about....... I'll start....... GAME: Portland Trailblazers at Toyota Center, 3/16/05 SOURCE: HIGHLIGHT video, torrent by Rockets2K First, some comical moments: 1. 3rd Quarter, Game clock at .33, highlight video at 4:45 * Van Chancellor takes a jab at Bill, referring to his education......a few seconds later, Bill comes back with his own funny statment....... 2. 4th Quarter, Game clock at 3:08, Highlight video at 5:50 * Outlaw goes up for a dunk and misses badly....it's funny, and the Rockets bench agrees. Check out Deke and Yao on the bench.......... ******* Now, a point about an early play ************* 3. 1st Quarter, Game Clock at 4:48, Highlight video at :30 sec * I brought this up in the game thread, which seemed to start a YOF bash fest......lol........ TMac brings the ball up to the three pt line, while Yao begins to establish position. Sura's man runs at Tmac, Sura is open for the pass in the corner, and receives it from Tmac. Sura is wide open for 3, but during this play, Yao has pinned his man in the paint with great positon. Sura has another defender starting to run at him, and he could have zipped a pass into Yao. Instead, he hits the 3. In this case, I would have rather Yao gotten the pass. It just seemed too easy. There were a few plays that I thought Yao should have gotten the ball. This is the one that I recall at the moment. My take on that play is that Sura had a good shot and made it, and we had another option available that was a higher percentage shot. Discuss, and add yours......
Sometimes, you have to let it go even though there might be a better option available. You can't expect players to do everything exactly as the coach wants, especially when the score spread is big. On the other hand, if the score is really tight, then players should concentrate on high percentage shots.
Good observation, TECH. Since the team is winning anyway without Yao getting adequate amount of touches in the past two games, so nobody is gonna complain. I don't know what's up with that, maybe because Yao's nice guy, teammates know they won't get chew out if they don't pass to Yao, plus the fact we're winning and they know Yao won't say nothing.
