    1. Tim Duncan is gone.
    2. San Antonio is screwed.
    3. Time for a fire sale to rebuild with only Robinson as trade bait.
    4. San Antonio loves ex-Rockets (Herrera, Elie, Johnson, Brown, Maxwell etc. etc.)

Trade: Cato, Drew, Wizard and if necessary, Thomas to San Antonio for the Admiral.

San Antonio gets: instant youth at center with Cato to replace Robinson; Drew will replace an Avery Johnson they are reluctant to sign to a 3 yr. deal; Wiz gives them an outside scoring threat at the 3; and a quality young player at the 4 in Thomas.

Rockets get Robinson with one year left on his 11million or so contract. For this year we have an aging twin tower combo with Francis, Mobley and Anderson to complement in the backcourt -- certainly a playoff caliber squad.

Next year we dump Robinson and his $11mill.; Hakeem retires with his $16mill -- All of a sudden, we are next years Orlando with big money to spend on players like Webber. We still have Francis, Mobley and Anderson under contract.

Come on all you frustrated GM's -- will this work?

Interesting idea: too bad this years crop of FAs isn't next year's!

The known crop of 2001 FAs is not impressive. Someone once mentioned that there are some players whose contracts will allow them to opt-in to Free Agency. Who are those players? Anyone who can help us?

BTW, NBAdraft.net has revised 2001 projections posted-- we get Zack Randolph to be our 4 for a decade to come!

I think it may be an excellent move on out part, but I think SA may want a scorer (Mobley?) who can creat his own shot. That is not Cato & Drew. Walt can score but he isn't a creator. And I wouldn't trade Mobley for David for 1 year.
I would like the deal, but I think Rudy's intentions were shown during the draft with the trade of Pryz for Collier. I think Rudy maybe happy with his core (Francis, Mobley, Anderson and lazy Cato) and try to add a couple players with our glutton of draft picks the next couple of years.
I have also heard the Admiral may head to Portland if Duncan leaves. I'm not sure if they it was via a trade (O'neil or Grant) or via FA after next year.

Ok this could be good in a way but it's never gunna happen. Rudy said that he wanted to keep Kelvin and he's starting to really like Wizard. I doubt he would trade Kenny Thomas cause I know he's thinking he can make him into a star. Also he doesn't want to be delayed another year for the rebuiling process. Very little chance of Rudy doin it, about the same chance as what we had of selecting Moiso with the 9th pick but anyway. Collier better be alot better then what I've been told!

If Duncan leaves, lets not lend the stinking spurs an extra hand in their rebuilding process. They are in our division. Let em suck. Keep Cato to see how he works out till the all star break; unless there is just this mega deal waiting to happen that involves him. Next year's free agent class includes no one after Webber and Finley. Plus isn't David a free agent this summer anyways? If so, we dont want him because he is not liable to sign a one year contract anyways.

If they weren't in our division, I'd consider it.

It would be nice, however, to go after Webber and Finley next summer.

I don't see this deal helping a division rival -- I see it making sense for the Spurs as any deal should improve both clubs for it to work for both sides. However, I'd pull the trigger in a minute if it gave us the best shot of landing Webber AND Finley.

I'm afraid the face of the NBA has changed forever with the moves Orlando has pulled or can pull this off season. Gutting a team and loading up on the cream of the next free agent class is a legit rebuilding strategy.

I'd be much more excited about Gooden, Cook, or the like being our PF. Especially if T. Morris is still on the board. (Why are we talking about someone's mock, when the draft is around 350 days away?)

And, uh, David Robinson is a free agent this year.

    Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.

Nikestrad: We talk about a mock for fun and mental exercise. Don't you?

kissofdeath, I see your point, but there are a load of good free agents this year. What is there next year beyond Webber and Finley who most likely will stay in Sac-town and Dallas respectively?

NIKE, are you sure Robinson isn't still signed??

We need some meat in the post and I don't mean Brian Grant!

I do talk mock for fun, but some things can't be manipulated.

RP-I am positive that Robinson is a free agent this offseason.

(Here's an interesting question-If Duncan leaves, will Robinson leave to a team like Phoenix? Would you sign Robinson with your exception if the oppurtunity arose, and for some reason he wanted to play with Dream in his last season?)
