That took balls to call that play with such little time left in the game. If that is an incompletion, chances are the game is over and LSU loses.
Heh heh, that's my longtime moniker on another forum. First of all, the short kickoff by Auburn was incredibly stupid, as in all time stupid. I dare anyone to try defending giving LSU the ball on their own 45 yard line. The last play call by LSU was beyond description. Obviously they underestimated the amount of time the play would take. If the pass had been tipped up, time expired and it was incomplete, LSU fans would have burned down Les Miles house. With the Florida game, the Kentucky game and now Auburn, LSU has had some amazing 4th quarter finishes this season.
Was it a bad kick or done on purpose? Because if it was done on purpose, man oh man, what a ridiculous, ridiculous thing to do.
Les Miles is one of the best coaches in college football. If he doesn't win the title this year rest assured he will have at least 2 within the next 10 years. With Michigan that is...
Deliberate because they were scared of the LSU return guys. The ball was fielded at about the 40 yard line and returned less than 5 yards. I bet Auburn fans won't let Tuberville live that one down. They shouldn't.
Exhibit A for Les Miles... <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/w0RrW9yO_8U"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/w0RrW9yO_8U" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
As an Auburn fan I'm really disappointed. Being up only 1, I knew the short kick put Auburn in a real bad situation. But I still thought they could pull it out. LSU really lucked out on that last touchdown + time running out situation. 99% of the time that play would be an incomplete and subsequently a field goal try. I wasn't even counting on the time running out, which was a strange sequence on its own, I just automatically assumed there would be a field goal attempt and I figured Auburn had a 50-50 chance the kick would be no good. I know LSU dominated the second half, but they should still consider themselves VERY lucky to still have a chance at the championship game! SEC is just way too deep. Year after year SEC teams keep screwing eachother over in national title hopes.
You're assuming the clock wouldn't have run down. What wouldve happened if the receiver bobbled it or it was deflected. A second goes by fast. The call was the right one because their FG kicker was only 12 -17. However, you have to snap the ball with at least 10 seconds just in case. They let the clock run down way too much.
Whoever was running the clock let about 3 seconds run down after the catch. Being at LSU they were probably jumping up and down and going nuts.
That always happens. That's why teams kick a FG with 8 seconds left even though a play rarely takes that long. The time keeper is always slower to react than when the play should technically be over.
Yeah, but he caught it at 4 seconds left. If it was an incompletion, even with the complete stretch that it was, there would have been 1 second left. But more than likely, they would have reviewed the tape to make suer there was time left had the timekeeper let the clock run out. those announcers were morons. it wasn't that huge of an issue. they cut it close sure, but not that close. then the reporter lady on the field at the end of the game - wow, she was bad.
