Let's relocate them to Houston, so we can have two Franchises. I mean sure, we couldn't support two teams, but let's just have two of them. They can share Reliant. Seriously, he should buy the Wild, and have them move to the downtown arena. Or, Les could buy the vikes, and move them to San Antone.
Forget the Vikings Les. Buy an NHL team for Houston. Of course, wait for the NHL's labor situation to get resolved first.
The Vikes might sell. The Vikes might relocate. But, and remember this: it might be the 1st $1,000,000,000 sports transaction anywhere. And it would be to LaLaLand.
Houston is interested in having an NHL franchise??? Am I dreaming about this??? If there is enough fan support for a hockey franchise in Houston, then why does the AHL Houston Aeros have to promote "Guaranteed Fight Nights" where a fan gets a free ticket to the next game if some player did not get tossed out for a fighting major??? Fighting is not the essence of a hockey game... speed and skill are the important ones... Even though this is a Rockets board, but being a Chinese Canadian who goes nuts at anything that deals with hockey what can I say?
LAlex wanted an expansion team. ChuckWhat wanted an expansion team. The NHL decided to wait 'til the arena was sorted. Les will have a team here by start of '05. And it won't be the Aeros.
Don't forget the 30 mill dollar loan to the Edmonton Oilers Les gave about 4 years ago. Les is in good with the NHL...no doubt.
Well looks like Les Alexander really wants an NHL franchise in Houston afterall... The main question is the fanbase. Unless we have over 18,000 people watching an AHL game (which Nashville did back in the former IHL days - and henceforth come the Predators), will Les be able to make money by placing an NHL franchise in Houston? I have no doubts in the Rockets fanbase right now cuz they have gone worldwide... but talking about the Aeros/future NHL franchise, hmmm..... building a new Compaq center is just one piece of the puzzle... Talking about Les buying the Vikings, I don't think he will put it in Houston... putting it in San Antonio is more likely... Houston is not NY or SF, where there is enough population to support 2 NFL teams in each city (Jets/Giants, 49ers/Raiders)... The craziest thing is LA still cannot get an NFL team back into their own turf...
