How many dudes out here on the BBS are fans of him? I watched The Departed again this weekend, and it reaffirmed to me that he is a badass mofo!
I just watched Basketball Diaries the other day... pretty good actor at that age to portray a crackhead
The only movie I watched of his after 'Catch Me If You Can' is "Blood Diamond' so I don't think you can really consider me a fanboy.
Departed=Overrated its slowly moving up on my list to Titanic status. Jack playing Jack, that's all he plays nowadays, I like damon but I didn't really believe his role. Leo's performance is the only one I really think that lives up to the hype, sheen and wahlberg are okay. as far as the thread topic, yes I'm a huge fan. his performance in blood diamond really showed his range, dude used to play a kid very effectively, and the transition to jaded mericenary was really impressive. too bad he plays in two of the most overrated movies of all time imo. its not his fault.
I thought The Departed was boring and ridiculous. The plot is tired and the acting was mostly overdone. Which brings me to DiCaprio. I think he is the luckiest actor alive. He's an actor with below-average talent who tries really hard and gets the best assignments. Blood Diamond was great, though.
If he would have skipped Romeo+Juliet, Titanic, and the Beach (I never saw it, I'm just assuming this one) then would he have gotten the same pretty boy image that he has(had)? I think he's a good actor - he just had the misfortune of making teeny-bopper blockbusters and took a hit because of it.
I actually thought Romeo and Juliet was a decent movie. I just didn't like him in it. The only movies I have seen him in that I liked were The Basketball Diaries and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Plus I think his being on Growing Pains doomed him to "teeny bopper" status from the very beginning.
Yeah, I forgot about the Growing Pains bit too. That definitely screwed him over. I still think that he could have been held in a completely different regard if he hadn't been in those roles, Growing Pains now included.
I like DiCaprio. I think he's a good actor and only takes good roles. He did a great job in The Aviator. I'm not gay I just like the guys acting and the roles he takes on.
Now days, when he is in a movie, I think it is worth seeing just because he's in it. He usually stars in great movies, and I'd say he's one of the best actors around right now.
I used to depsise him...mostly for Titanic and the fact that he was such a pansy in This Boy's Life, but after seeing The Departed, Blood Diamond, etc... I have newfound respect for his acting abilities
