    From ESPN

"Mets left-hander Al Leiter doesn't want to relocate to Houston. When asked about the prospect of being traded to the Astros, Leiter told the Newark Star-Ledger: "That would (stink)." Privately, a few Astros veterans told The Houston Chronicle that they wouldn't want Leiter if he didn't want to play with them. Leiter, who will earn $9 million next season, can not veto a trade to the Astros. The 35-year-old is 6-8 with a 3.25 ERA for the Mets this season. He's fanned 80 and walked 21 batters in 99 2/3 innings."

If he wants to lose and not try to contend for a championship, I sincerely hope we don't go after him at all.

All those people who didn't think Steve Francis was wrong for not wanting to play in Vancouver, you don't hate Leiter for this, right?

    Right!?

Off topic, but will the Astros game be on TV tonight?

The game is not televised at all by FSN, but is being televised by the Cubs on WGN. Usually, Braves and Cubs road games in Houston are blacked out on TBS and WGN.

In Houston we don't tax your income twice, and the Astros are vying for a playoff spot. Plus, we need another pitcher, the Raptors had a PG.

    Similar, but different, eh?

I understand that the situations are not exactly similar, DREAMer. I just wanted some people to see how Vancouver people got so upset, however unfairly.

What a coincidence! Here in Dallas we don't tax your income twice either. Who would have thought?

has anyone seen any reasons given by leiter or his agent as to why he wouldn't want to play in houston?

does he not like hot weather? beautiful women? year-round golf?

I'm not going to lose any sleep over why leiter would diss my hometown, but I am curious. houston might not be a lot of people's first choice, but I've never seen an athlete be openly hostile to the idea of playing there.

shoot, nba'ers, for the most part, fall all over themselves trying to play there.

now, if only HAKEEM would do likewise.

okay, okay, I know. . . wrong thread. forgive me.

I think he just doesn't want to be traded. From what I heard, he has a partial no-trade clause where he could list 10 teams before the season that he would not accept trades to.

He listed most of the good teams from last season -- Arizona, Seattle, Chicago, etc. Presumably, this was to eliminate all the teams that might want him.

He didn't list Houston -- we sucked last year -- so saying "Getting traded to houston would suck" is an effective way to add Houston to that list. That's my theory, anyway.

Or, maybe he heard some bad stuff about Houston from Hampton or Bell. They were both pretty pissed at the team when they left.

that makes a lot of sense. you're probably right. it probably has more to do with not wanting to be traded at all than it does with houston.

The contending team theory is a good one, shanna. Leiter really doesn't want to leave to go anywhere. I did notice that he left in the east-coast teams like the Yankees and Red Sox. The teams he has veto power against are in the midwest, south, and west coast. He was born in New Jersey, so maybe he just doesn't want to move that far away, if he is traded.

If Leiter's not available, I don't know that the Stros should make a move on a pitcher. Astacio to me is inconsistant and gives up a lot of homers. Rusch is a junk-ball pitcher with an ERA around 5. Unless somebody better becomes available, I just don't see it being worth it.
