itune if you own an iPod. iTune is pretty good. I bought about 100 songs from it. Many of them were paid by Pepsi. Have not tried anything else.
Do songs from Itunes only work with Ipods? Are there any services that will let you download songs as mp3's?
iTunes downloads ALL songs as MP3's. You can burn them to CD's or save them as MP3 files on your hard drive. They can go to an iPod, but I don't know if they are compatible with other MP3 players. It is definitely the best download service with the most songs and you get to keep them permanently unlike some where you just rent them for a while.
Doesn't it download protected AACs, not MP3s? Personally, I really enjoy the Napster subscription service. It does a great job of recommending music that you might like -- I'm a fan of dozens of bands I never had heard of before I joined. I tried the Yahoo subscription, and IMO it really sucked comparitively. It didn't have all the artist bio information, album reviews, and so on that Napster does.
Songs from the iTunes store are AAC files with Apple's FairPlay -- their version of digital rights management. Since Apple won't license it to anyone else, no other player can play songs from the iTunes store. However, I still think it's the best. I've tried iTunes, Napster, MusicMatch, MSN, and Real.
To "fix" this, you can simply burn a purchased song onto a CD and then import it right back to iTunes. Then you'll have it in MP3 format and can use it in any MP3 player.
As far as I know, you can still buy songs from Napster. My preferred download site is www.emusic.com. They do have some issues, and they offer indie labels rather than the big guys, but their service suits me just fine.
but I think their main deal (as well Yahoo's) is leasing the songs, i.e. when your subscription is over so is your access to their music library.
Are the ACC music files compressed? Is the burned CD wav quality? BTW I think that someone has cracked the ACC format. Don't know if it is legal, but google should be able to find the utility.
Just remember that the "subscription" based services "lock" you in by disabling your files as soon as your subscription is up. If and when I buy them I'd rather use one where I have control of the files... cracking iTunes' protection isn't difficult.
legal music downloading sucks because of the ACC files. They are protected. So to make the protected one available to be converted to MP3's you need to burn them to a cd, then rip them off that cd as mp3's. Such a hassel. I have Sony Connect, as my legal music downloading store. ONLY because SONY paid me $200 worth of songs to use it. Thank you McDonald's Monopoly game.
I hate Ipods and Itunes even more.. I use the Ipod because it was a gift, but the downloading thing is such a hassle any more.. I just buy CDs and rip them into MP3s and then onto the Ipod, Computers or MP3 DVDs for the car.. Itunes is a JOKE to me when it comes to ripping/burring/adding MP3s to the IPOD i use Anapod Explorer for the IPOD.. So after my 3 or 4th rant on here about Itunes I dont have much good infor to say about downloading.
http://www.mp3search.ru/artists.html?q=D I've been using the above site for about a year now, and I seriously love it. $.10 a song, $.99 to $1.29 an album plus free downloads depending on the amount you put up front. The downloads have all been excellent quality, and there are a billion trillion songs available. It's legal, too. [/<---Lie]
Hate to tell you, but the Russian music download sites are not "legal." They are not sponsored or allowed by the RIAA and are in Russia because the RIAA isn't recognized there and the Russian government doesn't care... so basically you are paying to download the same stuff you can download on Limewire. Seriously, if you are going to rip music off, why pay for it even if it's cheap?
Heads up Chinese Rocket fans, iTune also sells some Chinese songs. Too bad the titles are listed in Pingying. It's really hard to figure them out.
