Okay guys need some input, here is the story as best as I can tell it.Long story so try to follow...

I purchased 2 season tickets for UT's football games this year from someone, paid a good amount of money for them, 45 yard line seats. He told me he was never needed an ID to get in game. but I had one anyways so not a big deal and I bought them. I decided to try and make some of the money back by selling the ohio st tickets.

I called ticket brokaers/posted on Craigslists and basically had couple interested buyers. One man offered 1000 a ticket, which was what they were easily selling for if they for sure didnt need an ID. We corresponded via email/telephone and I kept being hesitant about selling becauese he was in austin and he wanted them right away and i kept pushing for a face-face meeting. I finally decided to take his offer of sending it fed-ex COD on monday, we never discussed the type of tickets, i included 2 id cards that came with the season tickets though. I emailed him a scanned copy of the tickets earlier in the day before i sent the fed ex.

The package was recieved by someone, apparently he works at Ticket City in Austin, and the cashiers check is supposed to arrive tmrw. I had no idea he was a broker, but that doesnt matter. I received a phone call around 445 saying I am so and so from Ticket City, u defrauded us for 2000 dollars if you dont send the money back we are going to the austin police, and our lawyers will be on you. This was all in a threatening tone, and I did call back right away claiming to not know he was a ticket broker/we never discussed if tickets were student or staff tickets. basically to sum it up they are pissed cause they know they cant sell them for the money they thought. Do i have a legal responsibilty to not cash the check now? Ticket brokers are the biggest sleaze balls ever and I would feel bad if i scewed over a true fan but these guys are just tryin to make money. THey made mistake of accepting package without double checking/not looking at the tickets close enough, so why should i help htem out?

Any input would be appreciated....i realize i shouldve been more straight forward but i honestly believed/still believe anyone can use these tickets....

Did the scanned copy you emailed them indicate that they were student tickets? If so then thats on them. HIring a lawyer is gonna cost them more than the $2000 and since you did send them authentic tickets than there is nothing ASPD can do. They could pursue the matter in civil court but that would cost them more than what they are asking for.

Edit. So how much for some OK lite tickets?

couldnt the school punish you for trying to transfer/sell a student ticket (plus the ids)?

You should have been very upfront about what type of tickets they were. You need to just end this whole transaction. I wouldn't cash the check and would try and get the id's back, sounds like you haven't given the tickets yet.

What he said...It sounds to me like the onus is on them...They will threaten you but in the end, you scanned the tickets so its their fault for not following up...This is just like on Ebay...You have to read the fine print...Enjoy your new found wealth...

Ok, I thought about this some more... If you don't intend to use these guys again or any others as you'll be blacklisted, forget about it...If you do, just get the tickets back in exchange for check and start over again...There should be a re-stocking fee though as Karma can be a b*tch...

well you need to contact ticket city again either on the phone or in person. call them idiots for not paying attention and not stating who they were when they were buying. further, you didn't not clearly state what you were selling. call them idiots and i would say get your tix back and give them their money back, because it is not worth dealing with them.

i am confused because i don't understand why these tickets can't be used or resold again.

Its really going to come down to how you advertised them and what you told him. Basically you are trying to sell student tickets (lesser value) for regular ticket market price. It doesn't matter who he is, if it were me I would be pissed also. its either fraud or at the very least very unethical on your part.

I agree it might be unethical on my part in some regards, but as far as i understood the tickets they arent student tickets, but considered staff? or anytone with a UT id can use them, also the back of ticket is confusing. question to me now is will they take it to small claims? or what

The broker should have asked you whether they were student tickets. He is a moron. He will say most people assume "tickets" to mean regular tickets. Do student tickets look like regular tickets? IIRC the stubs were ripped off student tickets so the entrant would have to show ID. I don't know how it works with e-tickets. Perhaps you shouldn't have included the IDs - that probably ticked the broker off - what is a legitimate business supposed to do with IDs? I personally would be afraid of legal action. I bet Ticket City pays a firm a yearly fee to handle all their cases so they're not worried about their cost. I bet they have a high success rate of proving fraud. If you believe you can fight it, go for it. Otherwise exchange the check for the tickets.

these tickets say LASP at top, i thought student tickets were ripped off as well, these arent e-tickets either. the ids i included arent student ids they are just something that came with the season tickets....no idea if they have any purpose.

I think these are student season tickets, not LASP tickets. You can buy full season tickets for games now, and skip the draw entirely.

It was good on your part to show a scanned version of the ticket to the broker

What you have going for you is that your dealing with someone in the ticket brokering business, who also should know better. He also has the duty to see what he is buying, especially from someone who apparently isnt clear on the rules or laws

the judge could see it that way
