[rquoter]Astros left fielder Carlos Lee said Thursday he may retire when his contract expires after the 2012 season as he aims to devote more time to his family.

“I don’t know if I’m going to play after this contract,” said Lee, 33. “I’m ready to go home.”

    ...

“Right now it's on my mind. I mean, I don't know. Maybe in my last year if I still got a love for the game and I still feel like I can play, I will probably come back,” Lee said. “As of right now, me and my family have plans.”

    ...

Lee is due to make $18.5 this season and again in 2011 and 2012. He has a full no-trade clause through this year and a limited trade clause in 2011.

Lee’s 10-and-5 (10 years in the majors and five with his current club) rights kick in for the 2012 season, giving him full-veto power over a trade.

Lee said the plan all along has been to finish his career as an Astro.

“It was one of the reasons I signed here,” Lee said. “I wanted to come here, establish myself and finish up here.” [/rquoter]

Perhaps a bit of, how do you say... "persuasion" could get Lee to waive his no-trade clause?

First week of May, and we've got one star player blatantly saying that the team needs to start over and is open to being traded ... and the other star player is already thinking about retiring when his contract is up.

    Yeah, we're hopeless.

Would you walk away from $18.5 million per year?
