LG's are better for serious video gamers than Samsungs in general. go to avsforum to read up on the specific models
Don't buy either one. The Samsung is an excellent brand, but it is a 60Hz display, which are going the way of the dinosaurs (you want at least 120Hz. although 240Hz will soon be "the new standard.") I've seen better Samsung displays costing less money on sale at stores like Fry's and Costco. Costco also doubles your warranty. It cost $50 bucks a year to be a member, but the cost is well worth it. Just be aware that they only take cash/debit card, or American Express, so if you need to charge it, that's a factor to consider. Fry's can have great prices if you keep checking, although I'm not crazy about the store itself. LG is one of the better "off-brands" that can make a decent display, but aren't in the same league as Samsung, Sony, and Sharp (along with a couple of others). You are more likely to have a better looking picture and a longer lasting display by going with the 3 brands I mentioned, IMO. Good luck and keep shopping!
pretty sure ive read before panasonic and samsung are neck and neck the best. and then lg is right behind them at 3rd. but then again ive done more research on plasmas though.
Consider a Samsung Plasma. They are cheaper, faster (600MHZ) and have truer blacks. Plasma is not going away, it's not 'old' technology, it's just cheaper.
I was thinking of Panasonic when I wrote, "and a couple of others." They've always been at the forefront of plasma displays, along with Pioneer. "And a couple of others!"
Would you say a Plasma is better than a LED? I will be watching sports and playing video games on it..
I got a samsung plasma to play video games on and the picture is really good and might buy the hdmi cables just to see if it really makes a difference i havent played on an LED so i cant say if the plasma is better/worse.
i just bought a new plasma last month and tested out my xbox360 games, MW2 etc, and watched a bunch of preseason football and world basketball. it's been excellent. no lag. http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-...g25/4505-6482_7-33957038.html?tag=mncol;lst;1

Not so true, Deck. Last week my LCD went out and we rushed to BBuy and bought a Samsung LED LCD at 120hz. Oh my oh my oh my. That first night I was pissed because everything looked like The House of Dark Shadows (maybe a few can remember that show) only with color. Another analogy would be soap operas. But after a few day I didn't see it and just appreciate the sharpness of it. I'm one very happy camper. Talking to my HD dealer who use to sell tv said anything above 120hz are for gamers. Hmmm. Maybe I'm off base here. Do they make straight LED tvs? Then maybe Samsung only makes 60hz LED tvs. But their LED LCD certainly do comes with 120hz.
LG is definitely not an "off-brand" like someone else suggested in here. While I have two Samsungs (one a local dimming LED and another a DLP), I'd still recommend LG's for their value. Their tv's have great picture and are right up there with the big boys as they allow much more calibration options in their user menus. The plasma 600hz has NOTHING to do with the advertised 240hz/120hz that LED's have. The 1240hz/120hz on LED's helps the refresh rate of LED's to help smooth out the motion blur that comes with the LCD technology. Plasmas don't have this problem as their response time is much quicker than LCD's. The whole 600hz sub field motion is used as a marketing ploy to lure customers into buying plasmas. Technically they are not lying, as plasmas have better response times than even the 240hz LCD's, but that 600hz sub field motion means squat. You will get better response times and more accurate black levels generally with plasmas, although the local dimming LED's are very very close, and some surpass the vast majority of plasmas in black levels if you don't mind a little blooming (something you will definitely not notice if you don't know what it means...). You really can't go wrong with plasmas, but I'd recommend a local dimming LED as I tend to like the "soap opera look" that comes with the auto-motion plus types of features with certain programming. Amazon has an excellent 47 inch LG 3D local dimming LED on sale right now. In fact, I just got an e-mail about it this morning. $1705 with a free blu-ray player and 4 free 3D glasses
You have auto-motion plus set to normal, high, or some custom setting on your tv. If you turn it off, you will not see the "soap opera" look anymore. I tend to like it, but a lot of people don't. You should be able to access it from the advanced setting menu on your tv. Look for "Auto Motion Plus."
We have a Plasma and an LCD. The newest one is an LG. Couple things I HATE about the plasma....uses WAY more energy....gets hot as hell...not to mention it's a b**** to move compared to the LCD.
Yo, thanks for this. Although I've grown quite accustomed to it its good to know I can actually change it.
I just got a Samsung LED 60hz. After reading that humans can't reliably detect anything above 60 anyway and certainly can't tell the difference between 120 and 240 then I decided to base my descion on features and price. Glad I went with that recommendation as I'm blown away. In fact, my wife doesn't like the TV because the image is too crisp. She says it makes everything look like raw video and she finds it distracting. Me, love it. I'm very happy with my purchase.
From what I've researched is that the 120s+ gets rid of the motion blur. Me, love it, too. edit: Is that a straight LED or an LCD with LED back lighting?
