After last nights game I was never soo impressed with a young kid's ability than I was with Lebron James. He can handle, Pass, Finish, play Defense, hes poised, competitive, mature, and unselfish. He is the absolute total package and he delivered when there was sooo much pressure on him. Hes 18. Now here is the question......... Who will have the better career Yao or Lebron? Right now I think they both make the Hall of Fame....But Lebron goes down as the better player. What do you guys think?
There's already so many good talents at the SG spot, but good centers are hard to find. I think Yao will have a better career. More rings, more awards, more trophies. Just an educated guess. But I can tell you this... I'd rather have Yao on the Rox over Lebron anyday.
Easy there, cowboy. Talk to me in 20 years. I say this everytime this topic comes up. A good big man is a better commodity in the long run than a good SG/SF.
Yes, LeBron made a good first impression, but let's see what he can do over at least one full season first before we make him a HOFer... If we start basing HOF elligibility off of 1 game, then Carlos Arroyo will get in before John Stockton.
It is really hard to say at this moment. Only one game for LeBron. The multiple games in the preseason did not show that he is a good shooter. So he won't keep his shooting percentage at 60%. But if he does, then I would prefer LeBron to Yao. A player with LeBron's court vision and passing ability can shoot the rock at 60% for an entire season... I say WOW. If you do not prefer such a player you must really really be a homer ...
Unless of course that shooting guard is MJ. Lebron is that good. He reminds me of a cross between Magic, MJ, Doctor J, oh an even throw in a little bit of Gervin with his finger roll. Lebron is the real deal. Only time will tell how great he will be, but no one has ever impressed me so much in their first game. No one, not larry bird not Hakeem not Shaq not even MJ. I still like Yao and wouldn't trade him. but Lebron looks much better than I ever imagined.
I wonder how Yao's first game of the season will be like. Hopefully just as impressive. Hell he has had 5 days off thats probably the most he has had off in 2 years.
since yao and lebron are different positions, i think the question should be: who will have a better career, lebron or francis?
Hopefully yao can stay healthy, his knees are taking a beating by having such a big body slamming down on them. James is a great player. I think he will be a big time star, sort of like Kobe. Yao...I hope he dominates like he can and should. Excelent centers are a lot harder to find than guards.
if you can assume Lebron will shoot 60%, then I can assume Yao will be the next shaq with 90% FT. and it's safe to say Yao is just as good at court vision and passing. if you prefer bron to Yao, you must be a moron. heck, even Kobe said he would pass on MJ for shaq!
lebron looked good, but it seemed clear that Sac was going to back off of him and let him shoot. A lot of his shots were wide open. They didn't seem to respect his offense much. It'll be interesting to see what happens when teams start to play him tighter.
I am sorry that you took it like that. I was only saying that you would have to like a player who has LeBron's ability and also shoots at 60% for a entire season. LeBron's metality is similar to Magic, and his athletic ability similar to Jordan. Even MJ shot only 54% at his best year. Did you see him waiting at the perimeter for his teammate and passed the ball for his teammate to ahve a dunk? If it had been Kobe or McGrady, he woulda dunked that ball himself... Such a player does not exist yet. Would not you prefer such a player over Yao?
Slavko Vranes Sorry, but I just think that argument is a little overrated. On a bad day, Lebron will be Brent Barry. And that is this year. Next year a bad day for him will be Jalen Rose. And so on because of the skills and athletic ability he does have. Bad days won't take away those things.
People keep describing LeBron as a SG or SF in this thread. Yes he's 6'8 240 but he's actually playing point guard for the Cavs. If last night was an accurate indication of his ability, I imagine he'll remain a point guard for many many years. As to who will have the better career? I think Yao is in a much better position than LeBron because I just have a great deal of difficulty in imagining the Cavs ever putting together a strong franchise. I could be wrong, but their history just isn't too impressive. Yao is on a talented team with an all-star guard and a somewhat respectable history. At the very least it can be said that since Les Alexander has been owner we've constantly been striving to build championship caliber teams. (though we had some pretty good teams at times before Les Alexander too. Rudy, Calvin, John Lucas and Moses Malone. whew!)
