Did anyone see the top plays of the week on ESPN Last night? They had a video recording of Lebron James in the gym playing some basketball and he went up for a dunk. As he went to slam it, he took the rim down with him and had a nasty fall. That was pretty crazy!!

It look like he could have hurt his head pretty bad. I am surpised he did not knock himself out. Crazy how he took down the rim.

After reading that story about how LeBron's parents behaved I can only say thank you, thank you, thank you that we are so blessed to have a class act like Yao Ming with classy parents on our team instead.

Some of these other athletes' parents and posse are beyond embarrassing.

I have a friend that has 2 cell phones. I laugh at him every time I see him. Idiotic.

As for that article... very eye-opening. Based only on what I read, I wouldn't want his personality on my team.

Well, at least they're out in the open about their priorities. He sounds like an awesome basketball player but he may get a bit carried away when he gets real money. I hope he gets good financial advice and doesn't lose his money foolishly, esp to his parents, since most athlete's careers are so short. I can't believe he's only 17.

I saw the clip. I'm amazed that he wasn't badly injured.

I'm curious... could he sue the gym (where it was at, of course) if he was? It's not like he weighs 275-300 lbs.

The scrutinism that Yao is getting now is NOTHING compared to what Lebron will go through next season. I don't think there has ever been an amateur athlete in any sport hyped up as much as Lebron has been hyped...

Really? I doubt it. I think most of the scrutiny with Yao is because he's Chinese, pretty much nobody believed he could play, and nobody believed he should have been taken #1. That's what many sportswriters were saying before the draft day. Then when Yao started doing bad they jumped all over it and continued bashing him just the way they had been for the previous 3 or 4 months. Yao was being bashed before he even played in the NBA. With Lebron it's a totally different story. There's no question about it, EVERYBODY thinks he should be taken #1! If he starts doing bad I can almost guarantee most sportswriters will give him all the time in the world before they start bashing him.

A lot of people keep making comments about the kid's attitude problem. Nobody gets more angry about this crap than me, but...the kid is having his games aired on PPV just because he's playing. He is constantly told by EVERYBODY how special he is and that he's better than everybody else. He never has reprecussions for his actions since people will clean up his messes just to be associated with his celebrity.

    It's sick.

Whoever decided that a HS player needed to be on PPV and coddled in this way needs to be taken out back and shot...repeatedly.

    I agree with Refman.

I'm less disgusted by the greed of Lebron's parents than I am flustered by the microscope Lebron and his family and the people in his life is living under. It's easy to say they're such greedy s***s, but they can't get away from greed. You've got agents and opportunistic people galore practically stalking these people like some gold rush. I don't know that I can relate to the greed, but I can relate to not wanting anyone to profit over my life. I mean, I'd be just as pissed at doing someone a favor by giving them my autograph or a pair of sneakers only to have then put it on the market to the highest bidder. It's a despicable form of capitalism. And if I don't relate to the greed, I'm also fortunate enough never to have had real needs not go addressed. I'm not saying Lebron's parents have, but they could.

And I thought Kobe was the most arrogant...

...I guess we'll see if LeBron is worse.

From the films it looks like LeBron is similar to T-Mac.
    Just heavier.

What has Kobe said that was arrogant, in the last couple of years? Granted, he was cocky when he was 18 or 19, but I think all the criticism he gets for being cocky, stems from when he was really young.

When you speak of cocky, I think T-Mac takes the cake. Hasn't won a playoff series to date, yet he'll run his mouth.

Yes, he was worse at 18/19. He's toned it down. But he was very
    cocky with Shaq behind him.

I mean, come'on. You don't mean to tell me you don't think that
    Kobe wasn't cocky last year?

Sure, T-Mac is the same way. Both are former HS stars and just
think the are "Gods gift" to the world.

Magic and Kareem were not like that (1980-93).

Neither was Penny Hardaway (at Orlando 1995).

We'll see if LeBron is the same way...

remember kobe wearing shades and jewelry at his press conference to declare for the NBA draft? he caught a lot of flack for that and was labeled as cocky for those actions.
