Anyone see the Lebron segment on sportscenter today? They were talking about growing Lebron into the next billion dollar athlete and how china is where he has to make that happen. They mentioned that Kobe is still about twice as popular as Lebron in china and mainly attribute it to the fact that china respects winning. Basically saying that if he really wants to go global he will choose a team that can win not just new york because its new york. Anyways on to the point... I was waiting, almost hoping for it, but of course there wasn't a single mention of Houston where the most obvious bridge to china exists already and a team setup pretty nicely to dominate should he choose to come here. I know this has been discussed before and even I don't think there is a chance in hell he chooses Houston, but I guess as a dreamer I hope he really is thinking about the Rockets as a viable destination. If he really wants to go global Houston fits like a damn glove.
lebron is to dumb to figure it out. im convinced him listening to guys like www and obama have brainwashed him. i still think he goes to chicago. bosh is confusing the hell out of me. he wants to win,yet be a centerpiece, and the only way for that is houston, yet you hear nothing about houston , something tells me bosh ends up in nets or knicks and sucks forever
This has always been my point about getting Lebron in Houston. If he wants to win the world, he should come to Houston and let Yao play 2nd banana to him. A championship with Yao as his sidekick would make him twice as popular as Kobe is in China now..simply because of the Yao connection.
If he goes to Houston... we will win a championship. Guaranteed. LeBron + Yao is a better 1-2 punch than Tracy and Yao... LeBron has better court vision and grabs more rebounds... And our role players are really built to be contenders... we just need one more superstar to lead us...
i saw this on sportscenter last night and was ready to make a thread... until it was over, and there was no mention of houston and/or yao at all
Useless speculation. IMO the media extrapolates too much from absolutely nothing. It's the sad state of sports journalism these days. I mean c'mon. Team LeBron? World Wide Wes? Nike deciding where LeBron will go? Really silly stuff.
It has nothing to do with being a Houstong Rocket, that's for sure. Lebron is perfectly capable of being a global icon without Houston. Kobe and other's have already proven this.
Cleveland = Mexicans. Tons of mexicans live in cleveland. Heck, its called little Mexico city by some.
Not really.. I'm from there and it's mostly white and black. Some of the suburbs like Painesville have quite a few but overall the city is only about 8% Mexican.
I love how the Rockets seemed to be ignored as possible destinations for all these people (When its just speculation and not based on facts). Houston isn't a small market, and theres the China, and anyone who doesnt think we are a star away from being a contender is blind. Hell, I think we can be a contender with the current roster+Yao+draft pick+back-up center, but we'd really be one with someone like Bosh or Lebron. And whoever comes can be the center piece, I don't really think I'd put Yao in that role if we picked up someone big. And why wouldn't Lebron want to play with one of the best big men? But we are never mentioned. Instead teams like the Nets or Knicks or whoever that does NOT have near the supporting cast we do. And the supporting cast we have is YOUNG. Brooks, Lowry, Budinger, Ariza, and Hill are all 25 or under, and Martin is only 27. You'd be poised to win many championships, not just one. It takes more than one star to make a good team. Hell even if you got Bosh and Lebron, you'd be a contender, but would you really be able to take the next step if you didn't have anyone around them two that was worth a flip? Ok, thats enough for that rant.
Maybe no one really wants to play for Houston and us fans just don't see it that way. What if were a less desired team than we realize?
one of the reasons were because the lakers/bulls/kings games were about the only nba games shown. That was the problem. But now its the rockets. The younger generations would grow up watching the rockets play rather than the lakers. I guess I have to agree with the OP that if LBJ comes to houston, he will for sure surpass kobe as being the favourite.
Then explain why Allen Iverson was the lone best selling jersey in China for many years. Not like they are showing Pilly's game all the time.
