i am planning to buy a LCD TV for my parents and another one for myself. i want 1080P. is 36 inch TV big enough to tell the differenct between 1080I and 1080P? i don't have enough room for a bigger TV. 36 inch TV is just a little over 1000 these days. thanks.

I think it depends on how far away ull be sitting but I read that u can hardly tell the difference at any size smaller than 50 inches...So u mite or mite not be able to tell the difference there even if ur gonna be really close to it...

I agree, I purchased a 50 inch 1080i Samsung and its really nice when watching HD, if you are using BLU-RAY you will definitely see the difference. If watching HD channels, you will hardly notcie the difference. Go with a 42 inch it is nice, really good display and you won't pay to much. You should be able to find a nice 1080i Samsung for 899.00 at Fry's. They have the best deals on Samsung by far. Price Match tv's, I guarantee it.

tracymac makes a point if you sit far enough you can hardly tell the difference to notice the pixels, I would look into Plasma as they have brighter colors for a cheaper price, and less distorted images when camera angles are moved quickly ie. watch Fast and the Furious on LCD. If you plan on using the LCD as a monitor for your computer at any point, then I suggest go with the LCD, depends what are the uses.

    Good Luck, hope I helped

no, unless you sit really really close.
if its less than 50, 720p is the better deal.

    what's your budget?

Remember, 720p is way cheaper. You can probably move up 11in and pay the same price. And Bluray is the only legit 1080p thing out there. Not cable satellites new 1080p ch selection, not video games claiming to be at 1080p, not unpconverting dvd players, just bluray.

thanks for all the replies. i was thinking about 1,000 to 1,500 per TV. what's the resolution for dish network channels? i want to watch rockets game in high def this season. i don't have blu-ray yet, but in the future will probably get one. i will probably sit about 6 to 9 feet away from the TV. thanks.

you can find plenty of good deals for that range, even at best buy.

    all HDTV broadcast is 1080i/720p

I have a friend who has DirectTV and all the sports packages and this exact TV.
its a great deal. forgo the 1080p and get the larger 50in screen.

Someone is broadcasting 1080p. I think Direct TV or Dish Network. But I doubt it looks any better than anything else.

so i got this TV today for my parents.

    http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sams...04262/catOid/-12867/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

the b*stard over charged me $100 compared to the online price. i will print it out and bring it in tomorrow to get $100 off.

do you guys buy the extended protection plan? it's freaking $270 for 3 years. i got it anyway.

as for the HDMI cable, i bought the cheapest for $50. how important is the cable? there are stuff that are like $200 for a freaking cable.

the whole thing came out to $1715. i will get $100 off tomorrow, so it's a bit better than that.

If you want any type of A/V,HDMI,Component,S, DVI,ETC.. go to Monoprice.com HDMI can be had for under 10 bucks.. And please don't believe the hype... a $10 HDMI cable can give you the same exact performance as a $500 HDMI cable..

if you are too lazy to go to monoprice to buy your cables online, go to fry's they always have some cheap hdmi cables, bought some for $10

say no to the warranty i've had name brand hdtvs that have lived longer than the warranties.

really? that would save me like 300 dollars. although, i am not too comfortable with the idea of not having extended protection plan on something i am not too familiar with. maybe i will step by tomorrow to price match their online price with $100 off and also $300 off on the extended protection plan. that would make it cheap. :D

btw, 120 mhz looks so much better than 60 mhz. :)

definitely do not buy the extended warranty on a good brand tv like that.
its a waste of money. go to frys and buy the non-name brand cables, they work great.

Depends...if it's a new technology I'd buy the extended warranty. When DLP came out it was wise to buy the extended warranty as alot of them had problems. And I would buy a 5 year extended warranty, stuff doesn't start breaking down until after a couple of years.

Researching the model number on AVS forum is another idea.

yeah, but for an LCD, especially a Samsung? nah.

I agree if its a new technology, but not LCD.
I bought an extended warranty on my old rear projection toshiba. nothing ever happened to it. I've never had a TV screw up, but I've only been buying the good brands like Sony and Toshiba.

DLP's have moving parts. Plasma is known to degrade over time. But LCD has no moving parts (except maybe a cooling fan) and LCD screens are widly deployed and pretty reliable.

I did buy the warranty for my Samsumg LCD. No regrets yet.
