as team president of the New York Knickerbockers. Gees, how many lives does Coach Cheney have? Any implications with trades of Ward/ other Knicks?

    Discuss.

Layden always OVER valued his players and thus many teams arent in a position to trade with the Knicks. It will be interesting to see have Thomas values the players. Clearly this opens up avenues to possible trades, especially for someone like Kurt Thomas.

It's about time. The knicks need a complete overhaul. Enough with trying to retool every year so they can get that coveted 8th seed in the East.

I'm not sure if there's anything that better personifies the phrase "bad to worse" than this move....the Knicks are really starting to become embarrassing.

    about Frickin time.

the NY fans HATE Layden, they ought to be happy hes gone.

SamFisher he has made nothing but terrible decisions as a GM.
this is a smart move, not a bad one.

I'm with you.... I can't believe they hired Thomas. I remember when Thomas tried to take credit for the Raptors success after he was gone, the team drafted Vince Carter and Grunwald made some moves. How in the world did he get the Knicks' GM job?

BTW, Layden was considered pure gold before going to the Knicks. His reputation has been destroyed since going there. New York will make or break you.

Isiah must be a real pretty-boy charmer. As a player and a GM and a coach, he has done enough to show that he has a real ugly side, and makes mistakes that he shuffles off on others.

But maybe he can take Steve and Mooch for McDyess and the NY first rounder...?!?! McDyess' expiring contract for NVE, the first rounder to....

    Sorry. Carried away.

And has anyone caught Isaiah taking credit for the Pacers this year? That is too much. "I had them on a five year plan, and it is nice to see them reaching the potential that we knew we would achieve when we built that team..." blah blah blah. Go Larry Legend, ditch him.

Isaiah is such a sucker. Shameless self aggrandizement and self-promotion. Does he have even ONE post-retirement accomplishment which he can take legitimate credit for? Stupid Knicks. Enjoy.

What's the over/under on on the amount of days before Thomas fires Chaney and takes over the coaching duties in addition to the GM role?

I almost feel sorry for Knicks fans.

Let's not forget Isiah's brief cameo role as owner/commissioner of the CBA, which resulted in the league filing for Chapter 11.

His post-playing career has just been one string of failures after another, it's really confusing how he keeps landing on his feet. I imagine his next gig will be replacing Stu Jackson.

hopefully at least they can get some good picks now, remember thomas was responsible for getting stoudamire who at the time was the best rookie and went on to win ROY. and also thomas was the one responsible for getting mcgrady in toronto, keeping him there wasnt his fault though. at least he can recognize talent

Hopefully he's well enough not sure he'd be interested but....

given the influx of NY'ers to Houston, Rudy T would have been a much more interesting selection for the job. :)

Bite your tongue, Gator. Don't you realize that, if Rudy coached or managed the Knicks, I ....gasp...would be forced into pulling for the ....gasp....Knicks.

Have to agree with the concensus, as much as that has always pained me. Firing Layden was a good idea, but they had a brain-freeze in hiring Thomas. I'm not sure if it is a step up or a step down, but whichever direction it is, it isn't a long distance. If they hired any veteran exec who'd been working the job for awhile, they'd be instantly better. Hiring Thomas instead means they'll have more of what they had with Layden.

So the knicks fired Layden? Smart.

They then hired the only executive who has been just as bad or worse: Isiah Thomas. Horrible.

I hope it pleases Knick fans that they found the one GM that is just as horrible as Scott Layden was. I wonder when the knicks will actually contend this century. It won't be anytime soon, especially with Isiah in charge.

I wonder how Thomas will try to rebuild the Knicks? Seems like he'd try to keep defensive-minded guys like Thomas and Ward. I could see him trying to unload Van Horn for anything. Is Thomas a guy to rebuild through the draft? Free agency? What?

Would love to get Thomas from them somehow. Ward I'm confident we can sign in the offseason if we want for not too much.

Gdamn. I wanted Isaiah to get another nba job so I wouldn't have to hear or see him as a commentator again, but as the knicks gm? Please no. He's going to be getting press all over the place. My only hope is that he crashes and burns in NY so badly that his rep is completely tarnished and no one will touch him in NBA or tv circles.

    *sigh*

Layden was horrible. I'm not sure if he made one good move. Ever. But, if Thomas is as good a GM as he was a coach or executive with the CBA, then Knicks fans should be sooo excited.
