From the New York Daily News- Dan Dickau pulled out of a workout yesterday for the Magic, the latest indication that the Rockets and Warriors have deal involving Houston's No. 15 pick, which would net Golden State the Gonzaga playmaker. What do they have we want? Foyle makes the ideal backup type to Ming, but we'd need to move Cato. They have the 1st pick in the 2nd round, which is like a first rounder this year. But that can't be enough for #15 in a good draft, can it? It's interesting it's not reported elsewhere. At least we'd know that Rudy isn't drunk if we hear Dan Dickau at #15...Gary St. Jean is.
Nice scoop NIKE. I missed that this morning. Raises questions though - what are the "other indications" that the Warriors and Rockets have a deal in place? Lawrence says this is the "latest". And just because Dickau pulled out of a Magic workout this means GS and Houston have a deal at 15? Strange. Haven't heard anything on a deal, but would like to find out something.
If we're trading away #15, then why are we still looking at the Nachbar's of the draft? The only way that would make sense is if we're taking the #3 from G.S. and I really don't see how in the heck that's going to happen.
Getting a back-up big man from Golden State makes sense if Orlando is still showing any interest in Cato like they were rumored to be.
I've heard a lot about Golden State getting #16 from Philly, partially as recompensation from the Hughes-Kukoc-Starks deal from a couple of years ago, but nothing about #15 from Houston. It could be that the writer mixed up 15 and 16 and meant to write about Philly instead of Houston...because I, too, have heard nothing about a #15 to GS swap. The Warriors do want Dickau a lot, though.
Probably not....and definately not for Cato. Miller can and will fetch more...plus, Cato's contract is a killer for when the Magic need the cap room.
Interestingly enough, this isn't Lawrence's first time saying #15 will be moved. I checked the archive, and sure enough, Lawrence said before that the Rockets were looking to move it for luxury tax reasons. Still, what do they have we want. Erick Dampier's contract is about equal to Cato's. Foyle only has 2 years left, but he's not really an upgrade on Cato that's worth giving up the 15th pick.
Maybe we're trading the #15 for Golden State's first round pick next year (hopefully unprotected). This might make sense if Rudy only thinks we have room for one rookie (or two if the #37 sticks) on the current roster, and considering we are giving our own pick to Memphis next year. Then if Golden State is in the lottery next year, we'll be in the Lebron James sweepstakes. Could lightning strike twice?
Dan Dickau makes good sense for Golden State; he should be a decent point guard, especially considering how he emulates Stockton's game (great: flops and phantom foul calls for another fifteen years in the West!) I wish I could figure what we get in exchange.
This just keeps getting better and better. If we can move Cato, that would be great, but why would Golden State help us? Did they not screw us over last year with Jackson (thank god), and are we not screwing them out of Williams? This does not make sense, unless the Rockets figure they might go lottery again and want to pick up an extra draft pick next year. This team needs to dump the baggage, and try to get someone with potential at SF. Nachbar, Jefferies, Butler, whoever
philly owes the Warriors a first rounder. WIth the SIxers picking 16th, i dont see why GS and philly wouldn't strike a deal. It' snot as if moving to the 15 spot will ensure Dickau any more so. The Rockets will for sure not take him.
We would hav to get a Sf, cuz I dont see us trading th 15 awayand not getting a Sf, so how bout his: KT,38,Cato, and 15 for Jamison and Dampier? Im pretty sure tht works for both teams, but I dont know if tyhey are gonna trade Jamison because of the recruitig trip and everything. If they do, he wants to be a PF. So I dunno whats up.
If this is a matchup between our brain trust of Rudy and CD and theirs of St Jean and Mullin??, we're going to come out smelling like roses.
I think Jamison has said he does not want to play sf, he wants to play pf. I don't see a trade happening with the Warriors unless it's a three team trade.
I also agree that if we trade with GS then it has to be a three team deal. On the other hand......Someone brought up that GS has the first pick in the second round. I seem to remember the Rockets traded out of the first round one year and got Othella Harrington. They got a good player but did not have to sign them to a 1st round contract. Could the Rockets do the same this year and get that Salmons guy from Miami? Surely Prince would be gone by then but perhaps not Salmons. Salmons is a 6'7" "point forward" whose stock has really gone up as of late. Perhaps this is a consolation prize for not being able to get Odom? Just a thought. Chris
FYI, for those interested in learning more about John Salmons. http://hurricanesports.ocsn.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/salmons_john01.html Chris
Actually if the Rockets didn't take Prince at #15 it wouldn't be surprising to see him fall--way down. I'm not sure why we'd want Salmons. He's a good player and I hear the Rockets were impressed with his workout, but I didn't think he's all that. I have seen Katz and Ford from ESPN pumping his stock for over a month now...way before draft camps and workouts...it just seems odd Also, the guy that wrote this article said we'd trade the #15 in a previous article because we couldn't find room to pay another player which is complete BS
