Hey, Dumb question: We moved in a new house, with a brand new yard in March. Water to get it going and keep it all summer. Now, in Nov., I've heard I should stop, let it go dormant. Is this true? (I'm in Austin)
Not Hispanic? Don't know about Austin's weather, but here in Houston I've learned to just feed it Winterizer ONCE and it's done for November through the spring, and you won't get any more green until around February or March. Also, make sure you protect it from weeds with WEED'n FEED at least once to keep those pesky plants from sprouting. Good luck.
No offense but ignore swolys post. Yes, you still need to water, we are in a drought in austin. don't use as much water as summer and pay attention to the rain and skip when it has rained. Don't use weed and feed and those chemicals. Go organic. A little work up front, but once you get on the program you will use less water, have a healthier yard and not be polluting. Since you are in Austin, check out the naturalgardeneraustin.com there is info on there on what to do at certain times of year. they are located in SW austin, go in there if you need help and they have tons of info Trust me, organic is the way to go
Apparently, your selective reading skipped "about Austin's weather" in my post. I said NOTHING about water, but just said how my lawn was. Ignore my post? So... let the weeds sprout, huh?
I meant not to use weed and feed and other chemicals as you had posted. For example, corn gluten is an organic way to prevent weeds. But just having a healthy yard will crowd out weeds. I never use any weed preventer and don't have any weeds, the few rare ones I get, I just pull by hand I'm not trying to bash you, just giving him a better alternative to chemicals
