I loved him in this show and his one liner's were great... RIP 'Law & Order' Star Jerry Orbach Dies Wednesday, December 29, 2004 NEW YORK — "Law & Order" star Jerry Orbach (search) has died of prostate cancer at age 69, a representative of the show said. Earlier this month, Orbach's manager announced that he had been diagnosed with the disease. But he was optimistic. "We expect he'll be fine. He's been playing golf, shooting his episodes and doing real well," manager Robert Malcolm told the New York Daily News. Orbach starred for 12 seasons in the original "Law & Order" (search) series, but left to head the spin-off "Law & Order: Trial by Jury," (search) set to debut next year. The show's producer, Dick Wolf, also had high hopes for Orbach. "We expect him to make a full and swift recovery, and while he is receiving treatment, we will work around his schedule," Wolf told the News. Orbach began playing Detective Lennie Briscoe in 1992, the original show's third season. Born in the Bronx, he was in the original cast of the off-off-Broadway hit "The Fantasticks" and has appeared in such films as "Dirty Dancing," "Prince of the City" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors."
Wow, that sucks. I absolutely LOVE that show and he was on there for a long time. I knew he was off the show this season but I didnt know he had cancer. RIP
Damn, prostate cancer. Its really sad to see someone die of a preventable disease but I guess they didn't know how serious his condition was.
Why do you say that? My family has never had a history of prostate problems. Rectal problems, on the other hand...
I only knew him from "Dirty Dancing" but oh what a performance it was as the evil father/doctor. "Nobody puts Baby in a corner!" - Patrick Swayze RIP
That's a good point to make. A little known fact is that close to 100% of elderly men at autopsy have prostate cancer microscopically. Some men just exhibit effects of it much earlier than others.
Right, but the number of autopsies performed are substantial enough to deduce certain facts with little reasonable doubt. My point is that as life expectancy in American men increases, prostate cancer as a cause of mortality will also increase.
exactly. if detected, it is preventable. but at age 70 the odds are %40 of getting the disease. if you live to be 100, the chances would simply increase even more. there are also problems such as enlarged prostate or inflamed prostate(prostatitis). there are theories that bacteria can be passed from the woman to ther man and the prostate can become infected... (yeast infections and UTI's)
Man, that's sad to hear! He was my favorite character on L & O. He had great one liners that cracked me up. R.I.P.
