How can you not mention Model X by now? You're a cheap ass excuse for an Elon Musk fan boy.

    Nice one.

Culturally speaking no one really speaks Latin; hence a dead langauge. It's really just for reading/writing. Nice to take if going pre-med, with the terminology or if learning one of the romance languages because of the latin roots.

This isn't something I've thought about much but interesting to read about. I find it very interesting that it's hard to pronounce in Spanish what tells me that it might've originally been coined by English speakers, or at least those who primarily bilingual. If that is the case it would seem inappropriate to apply to a group of people who are bound together by the Spanish language.

By that logic it would be inappropriate to call people from India, Indians.

I think people can call themselves LatinX is they want to. Or Latinos. There doesn't have to be a right or wrong. LatinX or LatiNo. But maybe not LatinYes

I don't know if the purpose of the cartoon is to make fun of language but I'm guessing that many might pronounce "Xian" very differently depending on what language they speak. If it's primarily American English might pronounce it as "ex-ee-an" or "ski-an". I've even heard "X-ian" used a shorthand for "Christian". A primarily Spanish speaker might pronounce it as "hee-an"

When I look at it mentally I'm pronouncing it "Shee-an" following the Pinyin transliteration of Mandarin where "X" is closer to an "shee" sound and is name for the city in the PRC that was the ancient capital is rendered in Pinyin as "Xi'an".

There's been a lot of changes based upon culturally appropriate designations. "Peking" is now known as "Beijing" because that is the Mandarin Pinyin transliteration. "Peking" is based on upon a transliteration primarily from an older system that isn't used much. The term "Oriental" is considered dated and slightly offensive as it is considered a Western term to apply to the people of Asia.

If most Latino / Hispanic people want to use the term "Latinx" I have no problem with it but that doesn't seem to be the case. Further if the term is derived from a cultural use of the term "X" and developed by people who primarily speak English that is hard to pronounce in Spanish that doesn't seem fitting.
