coming out of dallas... obviously just a rumor, but jamison, najera, delk for wallace. sorry no link.
They have been rumoring Jamison+parts for Wallace for the last week. The thought is that the Blazers dont want anything to do with Jamison's long term contract. And clearly Najera and Delk are just in the deal to match salaries. I think the Blazers might listen to the Jamison deal if Josh Howard was included.
I think that this would be a VERY good trade for portland. Without even about character issues yet, this gives portland a scoring foward who basicaly almost does the same things wallace does. AND you get a good PG and a hard nosed defender in najera. financially this is a risk for portland IF they were planning to play the FA field but in all honesty this is a great deal b/c wallace is going to come off the books anyway and it's pretty hard to even think about signing 3 players like jamison and co in one offseason and now about character issues. well portland still wins. so let cuban have his players...he'll eventually learn that putting top flite talent together without chemistry will blow up...ironically like the past Portland teams.
nah crap deal for the Blazers howard would have to be included and also daniels before i would consider taking on jamison but even then his contract is enormous..... everything i read suggests the blazers really want to get under the cap and i reckon the only the way they ship Rasheed out is in combination with Stoudamire and/or for draft picks and decent young players with cap friendly contracts..... even if they don't trade him before the deadline they still have the sign and trade option later
The interesting thing is that some talk show hosts here in Dallas are saying they don't want anything to do with Rasheed. He's a nutcase, his defense sucks, and he likes to live around the 3 pt. line instead of bang inside and get rebounds.
To hear some of the chatter on the radio up here (Dallas), you'd think the trade would be Walker+parts for Wallace. Most Mavs fans can't stand Walker.
Yeah, Mavs fans I know want Walker's head. Never mind the fact that he is the first Mav since Kidd to put up back to back triple doubles.
The best thing I'd try and do if i were Portland is I'd try and get kwame brown and stackhouse from Washington, where he played previously and who might want to build around him instead of doing it all through drafting like NY. Would Washington do it? Portland would have Stakchouse to support Randolf and make a run at the playoffs and still have time to develop Kwame into a decent player, if not into a Jermaine O'Neil in a best case scenario.
The problem with Jamison is he's a tweener SF/PF with a huge contract ($16m player option in 2007-08). IMO, Jamison's better position is PF which is already manned by Zach Randolph. Wallace has better range than Jamison and can play some C. POR would be paying max dollars for a good character but with (at best) marginally better skills. Don't know if they would, but they'd have to include another ~$4m-$6m in contracts to work capwise. If POR let's Wallace walk, they have ~$6m-$8m for FA signings. Which is better Stackhouse until the end of 2009 or a possible summer FA signing? ============================================== There seems to be an attitude around the league lately that if you're never going to be able to get under the cap, you're a better off getting a "franchise" player. Given the Knicks' caps situation, this was Isiah's logic in trading for Marbury. POR on the other hand will have moderate cap room so IMO they are going to think long and hard about who they put next to Randolph. The other part of the Blazers' decison is that right now a trade for Wallace has to be for 85% of his ~$17m salary. During the summer, all current signed contract for 2004-05 and beyond will escalate meaning a $10m-$13m SnT is a possibility. And that possibility means less "filler" contracts for POR. The obvious downside is Wallace has to approved the contract.
Many variables including what POR views as "better". Better players with huge, lengthy contracts may not necessarily be "better". Assuming Yao and Steve are "untouchable" and the Blazers won't take Taylor as they have Randolph and not exchanging any draft picks: Pre-Feb trade deadline: * Cato + Mobley + ~$2m of TE. * Cato + an EC third team with a player POR wants that will take Mo T and ship POR that player. During the summer: * Cato + ~$4m of TE = Wallace SnT for $12m (lower SnT = less TE). Obviously not enough value, so you'd have to agree to Mobley for Patterson or Derek Anderson. * Cato + an EC third team with a player POR wants that will take Mo T and ship POR that player. Last resort: * Hope Wallace thinks Houston is the next rising power and signs for MLE $.
Wallace playing the "3" doesnt do him any favors. It forces him to take long shots and not bang in the post, something he DOES do if manning the 4 spot.
Spot on what any one would say if they watched a couple Blazers games(for the last couple of seasons). Don't know why every team is going after him, especially with that contract. I'd rather have MoTalyor than Sheed if we're going pound-for-pound/dollar-for-dollar. And people ask what's wrong with the league. It's chumps like this that don't play their roles/to their limitations(thinks he's a black Dirk) and get paid millions of dollars.
I think Portland would be better served trading for Walker rather then Jamison. Portland is aiming to have cap room in the summer 2005 when Stoudamire’s contract ends and Walker’s contract ends that summer as well. That’s why Portland wanted Illgauskas so badly, because it gives them a star player for the short term and his contract ends in 2005. It allows Portland to completely start from scratch that summer. It gives them enough cap room to sign a max player. But if Dallas fans really are too afraid of Wallace's attitude and are sick of Walker, maybe the Rocket could get in on a 3 way. Walker to Portland Cato + J.Jackson or Cat + trade exception to Dallas Wallace to Houston
after reading what y'all said i guess it might not be a great of a deal for portland. but I also think that there's no way dallas is trading josh howard unless dallas gets back someone better. as for walker....yea i don't like him either but you have to admit, he's been playing like an All-Star this season.
Can you elaborate on Sheed's defense? Is it because of lack of effort (or caring) or lack of ability? I'd assume JVG could get a little defensive effort out of Sheed if we had him. I'm sure very few teams would be interested in Sheed if his contract weren't expiring. However, assuming a $7-$9 million per year deal, would you still rather have Mo Taylor?
Actually depends on which Sheed I'm getting for that 7-9 million. Nothing about Sheed involves lack of ability. He can play positional defense, he's athletic, has the ability to hit shots from the outside as well as in. Problem is, he doesn't either know when to do what or doesn't care about doing it. Sorry, but when someone like Randolph, who is very raw and doesn't pocess nearly the same abilities, gets more hype than you....someone who was supposed to be a cornerstone of a franchise.....well.....you can finish it off.
