Sorry this is not posted in the numerous "Trade for McGrady" or "Trade for the #1 pick" threads but I felt like it would get lost. The latest informaion coming from the Magic about thier plans with the first pick or McGrady. Not alot of new info but it is interesting to see anything that has transpired so far. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...n03,1,1468374.story?coll=orl-sports-headlines Teams contacting Magic GM John Weisbrod said there has been lots of interest in trading for the No. 1 pick in the draft. By Brian Schmitz | Sentinel Staff Writer Posted June 3, 2004 As many as a dozen teams have talked to the Orlando Magic about trading for the No. 1 pick in the June 24 draft, including some clubs that have dangled name players for the pick. But Magic General Manager John Weisbrod downplays any imminent blockbuster developments, saying, "Everybody is bold now." Pulling the trigger on trades is another thing. "I've probably talked to 10 or 12 teams about the pick," Weisbrod said. "I don't think there is one team that is any more zealous than another. There's a lot of poker being played." Weisbrod has said the Magic could deal the top pick, but he declined to mention the names of recognizable players being offered or the teams offering them. It has been reported that Dallas and the expansion Charlotte Bobcats have called the Magic. Weisbrod said the Magic haven't actively shopped the pick but are listening to offers. He did agree that Connecticut center Emeka Okafor and Atlanta high school star Dwight Howard are the "consensus" top choices. Both will be brought to Orlando for workouts and interviews after the pre-draft camp, which begins Tuesday in Chicago. Weisbrod will make the trip along with Coach Johnny Davis, assistant coach Paul Westhead, director of player personnel Dave Twardzik and director of player development Otis Smith. The Magic will explore trade possibilities to see if they can acquire veterans in return. Tracy McGrady doesn't want to rebuild around draft picks and has said he might "have no choice" but to push for a trade if the team can't improve quickly this offseason. McGrady even named a few teams last week that he might be interested in, telling the Sentinel that the Houston Rockets appealed to him. Weisbrod maintains that discussions with McGrady's agent, Arn Tellem, are "positive." Weisbrod said that contrary to the published reports, McGrady's camp has not given the Magic a list of teams he might want to play for next season.
I bet a lot of teams are trying to "low ball" the Magic for that #1 pick knowing that the Magic might be VERY willing to deal the pick to get some veterans in thre to help out McGrady. Who knows how desperate the Magic are? In the end I expect Orlando to use the pick on Okafor and then try to use their other assets such as Gooden/Howard/Gaines and their MLE to improve their team. I personally dont think they have enough assets to do it to McGrady's satisfaction and thus I think McGrady will be asked to be traded. Hopefully to the Rockets!
Nothing the Magic can get for the number one will ever = YM. If TM wants championships, then coming to Houston is a no brainer.
to win a chaimonship you are gonna need a 7 footer with skills. Having some guard orientated team will not work.
Obviously your showing your favortism to SF. Nothing wrong with that, but theres no way a team with SF and Tmac will work and once you throw in mobley we can expect to see some drama. Bottom line is that tmac has all named teams with a talented bigman.
T-mac is NOT Jordan and anyone who trades Ming for a T-mac with a bad back and a worse attitude - to play along with SF3 and Cat is a fool that care more about highlights than about winning
Arn Tellem is his agent. Is that the same guy who handled Shandon Anderson and Moochie Norris, or do I have my agents confused?
How do you account for the 89 & 90 Pistons, the 91 - 93 Bulls, or the 96 - 98 Bulls? All guard oriented teams without a dominant center. And that accounts for 8 out of the last 15 years. Tracey McGrady is no Michael Jordan, but then Yao isn't Wilt Chamberlain or Kareem either.
That's Dan Fegan...also the agent for Hakeem (when he signed with Toronto). Tellem is the agent of TMac and Kobe. He's part of the SFX group with David Falk if I'm not mistaken, which includes a LOT of big name clients. It's also noteworthy, Tellem was the agent of Eddie Griffin.
true, but it has highly unlikey a guard oriented team will win a chaminoship. Espeically one with mcgrady, steve, and cat.
I've got a friend that is convinced that MJ is the reason the East sucks so bad. Everybody in the East saw Jordan and the Bulls and tried to copy it. They thought that guard play was the future, and that Big Men didn't matter. The problem is, there's only one Jordan. Even Kobe can't get it done without Shaq, and TM knows he can't get it done without a dominant big man too.
