Yeah mine did that for a while after comcast took over. I was getting like 18 down and like 3.2 up so yeah it was sweet playing xboxlive with minimal lag for a couple weeks.

I think this was just brought up recently. But it's safe to say Houston benefited from the Comcast Time-Warner swap. Everybody I've talked to is pretty happy. Not sure how the Dallas folks feel about it.

Not sure either in Dallas, but in the burbs, we get can get (and have) Verizon FiOS. Needless to say, I'm not complaining about the swap, and my wallet isn't either.

But, I have some folks in the city, and they seem to still be getting 7Mbps. Pay $10 more, and get 10Mbps. I never really liked Time Warner when I lived in Houston, it cut out on me at least twice a week, but at the time it was the best option.

Why they would switch with Comcast when people knew FiOS was coming to the area is beyond me. In Houston, there was no option like Verizon, and they stood to make the same killing they have been making, but now they may end up losing out to a telephone company, lol.

I'm still getting 5 Mbs and super slow up speed.

My modem is four years old, should I get a new one? Would that matter?

Try unplugging modem for 30 seconds and then plugging back in.

YES it does matter.. Here is my story..

I have been getting great speed from Comcast the past couple of years with little problem with service (Knock on Wood).. All of a sudden at night there was major network problems.. After a week and trial and error i determined it was Comcast.. Gave them a call and after about an hour with helpless desk they told me to return the modem to a Comcast store and get a new one..

Well I visited the Sugarland Comcast store and got a replacment.. But what I received was obviously a refurbished/used model because it was the modem I received 2 years ago.. But I tried it anyways and hooked it up.. OMG the modem was dead slow and only was able to max at 5mb download speed the next day I had to go to a different Comcast store because they ran out.. When I finally got the replacement (which was brand spanking new) and hooked it up I got 18MB download with 3Mb up..

So replacing your modem is a must if your only getting 5mb download.. Also I was looking for the new Docsis 3.0 modem but it's not out yet.. Supposedly you will get up to 30mb download speed WOW... sometime this year it will come out and I will be first in line..

So here is my setup at home... My dad who lives with me does video (stream) conferencing with people on the other side of the world, I always have 1 computer downloading music, movies, or some file.. My kids are always on the net visiting sites like Nickjr.com or Disney (looking at Disney Videos0.. All while I"m playing StreetFighter HD and I GET NO LAG at all...

    So yes speed rocks....!!!!!!!!!

Wow, so should I get a new modem from crapcast? I am getting 3 MB download speed...yes I know it sucks. I currently don't NEED all that speed but it'd be nice.
