Whenever I do a google search and click on a search result, instead of taking me to the website, I get directed to ad sites.
This has been happening for a few days now, figure it must be a virus/malware.
Did a scan, but comes up empty. Perhaps, I need a better antivirus program...any suggestions?
Could it be something called Google redirect virus? What to do?
Just throwing out random ideas at this point, it's getting annoying being taken to some other site, and then having to click back to get to where I was trying to go.
I know I'm going to get some smart ass comments...but whatever....hopefully someone can throw some info. my way. And this may not fit into the hangout mix....so feel free to rid of it....but wait awhile.
    Any ideas/help?

Definately got some adware or malware. Dowload Malware megabytes from Filehippo and run a scan. Hopefully it can take care of it.

Yup it's the google redirect virus. I couldn't remove it man I tried everything so I just ended up setting my laptop back to factory settings. But I now found out a way to remove it, use rkill. Hope this helps.

I used TDSSKiller. Works like a charm. Removes all traces. Then just follow up with a Malware Bytes scan and it should be completely off your computer.

I have a few friends who've run into this - it also can take over if you visit some of the common Adware sites like AdAware so you can't download those programs. After a lot of research, we found one program that worked: Hitman Pro. It comes with a 30-day free trial that you can use it fully and it will clean out your system. Since you probably can't google search it, the link is here:

If it's the same thing, that program is the only one we found that effectively killed it. After you run that, I'd recommend going into your IE and resetting it to its default settings - that will clear any remnants that the malware might have put in place. Hopefully that kills it, although I remember going in and messing with some registry settings before I found the Hitman solution. If you need it, I'll see if I can find the guide that told me what to delete, but hopefully Hitman takes care of it.

I had this a month ago. Threw every free anti-virus utility on the internet at it. I think TDSSKiller was what finally did the trick, though I can't be certain. I also tried MalwareBytes, Avast!, AdAware, RKill, and Spybot S&D.

    TDSSKiller:

None of those work except rkill and TDSSkiller, this malware adware is a pain in the ass.
