The judge is ruling tomorrow and most likely will put a stop to FREE downloading of music on Napster. I am sure Napster will be jammed with people grabbing songs before this happens (and before the next free one comes along, because you know it will). Will the Music Industry ever be able to stop the Free downloading of music? ------------------ "Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored."- (Aldous Huxley) [This message has been edited by BobFinn* (edited March 01, 2001).]
I still don't see what the difference is from downloading off the net and borrowing a cd from a friend. You're doing the same thing. Either copying the CD from a friend next door or copying a song or cd from someone a million miles away, it's the same thing. No, free downloading will never die! As long they don't outlaw peer to peer connections! That's next.... see you on Napster! rH ------------------ Homecourt will always be 'The Summit' to me!! Until we move downtown!! You are right. They are no different and both are copyright infringement. Now, personally, I've borrowed CD's or gotten tape copies of records before from friends, but my friend didn't also supply another 5 million people. Ultimately, that's the real problem. It isn't the copying. Everyone knows that happens. The problem is that Napster sets it up so you can trade with total strangers over and over and over. If all you did was copy your friend's CD's, the numbers would be minute unless you have several million friends. Napster just opened the floodgates and that MASS downloading is what created the problem. ------------------ "You know what they say about the music business. Gee, that was fun while it lasted. I'm sure I'll still pay the subscription when that happens. CDs are too expensive! Pinche music industry. ------------------ Whatever you want to do, you have to do something else first.
Noooooooooooo But there are so many other places to get them from. Napster just made it convient. ------------------ Nice guys finish last ... and im surely not going to finish last!
I think most people who say they will pay when the time comes are full of it. Let's see....pay for Napster or use an alternate product to get them for free. Hmmm.... The only way most of the Napsterizers are gonna pay is if you can send a cop to their door to arrest them when they break the law by downloading it illegally. Otherwise, they will just find an alternative. Not to mention the dumbass RIAA can't agree on squat. Let's all offer our own service, let the user figure out what label their songs are on, and join with us. Not Gonna Do It!!! We need one place...the ultimate one stop shop for MP3s. What is really ironic is that Frank Zappa predicted all of this back in the early 80's. He wrote several essays and a book about how music would eventually end up on a cable tv system (close to the internet in theory) where you could listen to the music or load it onto a special system for playback at home. The liner notes and cover art would be displayed on the screen. Man, was he ever ahead of his time! ------------------ "You know what they say about the music business.
