I'm getting it tomorrow to cure me of my near blindness (-8.00). Anyone had it done or know someone who had it done? Any experiences? I'm getting it rather young (21) but I passed all the preliminary exams. My doc is one of the best in NYC so I'm not too worried about any complications.
I'm jealous. I have "higher order anamolies" that can't be corrected with Lasic so I just found out I am not a good candidate. I am a -7.0 myself...
I had it done back in 2001. It's been fantastic. At last check I had 20/20 in one eye and 20/10 in the other. The procedure is fast, painless and recovery time is minimal(couple of days max).
I was thinking of getting it too. But about how much does it cost. And did you get it off your insurance?
Most insurances will NOT cover it, but you can pay into a flex account and then use the money for it later. I was researching it pretty heavily before I got slapped down.
I had it done by Dr.Slade in 2001. Totally painless, they gave everybody (like 20 people) a valium to help with the willies, lined us up and ran us through. I could see without glasses on the ride home. Since I'm older (50) I have had increasing myopia and had to start using reading glasses after about two years but my astigmatism was cured and I drive, watch TV and play golf without glasses. The best part is when you get to buy your first pair of 'cool' sunglasses. So if you can afford it, I highly reccomend it.
Every time I visit the eye doctor (Berkely Eye Center) my eye doctor reminds me that I am a perfect candidate for Lasik and asks me when I want to do it. "When you pay for it" is my standard reply. Seriously, I think I will get it done one day, when I have a spare $3-4 grand to pay for it, but they will have to give me three valium to get me strapped into the chair. I've had all sorts of surgery, but surgery on my eyes freaks the crap out of me.
im doing $3,700 total, but the Doc is extremely qualified, did the eyes of my mother and my aunt with no problems. Insurance covers a little but not enough to be significant. There are many places in NYC that do it for as low as $500 per eye, with most doing $1000 per eye, but when my vision is at stake, I'm taking little risk.
I'd give anything to have this done, the only thing that would get annoying is those strange glasses they make you wear nonstop for a few days afterwards. My girlfriends mom had it done and she's been great ever since. Give me a few thousand dollars and I'll be next. Pugs
mmm valium, im not nervous but I'll gladly take some. other types of surgery irks me, but for some reason, im not letting this affect me since the awards are so great. I figure, the sooner I get this done, the less I have to pay in the long run for contacts, contacts supplies, glasses etc. And the joy of swimming underwater with my eyes open, seeing the alarm clock when I wake up, tolerable allergies in spring, no more coke bottle lenses, and no more waking up to dry contacts is more than worth it to me.
The only problem I've heard with getting it while your still young, say under 30, is that your eyes still may get worse after the procedure is done. Your eyes will always get worse, but the process slows down once you get older, or so I've been told. If the doctor said you should do it then I say go for it, he would definitely know more than me. Good luck with it. Pugs P.S. I hate you
Have you checked into the "WaveFront" procedure? It's supposed to fix higher order anamolies. I had it done this year, and I'm extremely happy with it. Totally painless and less scary than you think it's going to be. I'm seeing 20/20 in my left, and 20/25 in my right eye.
Hey good luck! I've got like the same horrible eyesight (-7.25 OD and -8.00 OS). I could never get used to contacts and I'm getting sick of these glasses I've had (not the same pair haha) since I was in first grade. Of course the eye doctor recommended I might want to think about getting LASIK (after three years of stability he says since this was the first doctor visit my eyes didn't get any worse), but I don't know if he was just trying to sell his service or not. Whatever; it's something I might seriously consider in a few years. Just keep us posted on how the procedure went and recovery. Even details might be a great help. Good luck once again!
My mother got it and had to go back for a second go as the first wasn't 100% effective. She had some pain at first, but seems to be doing much better now. I can't even come up with $50 for an XBOX game, so the $3000-4000 for my eyes will just have to wait.
Dont get a cheap doc. My co-worker got a botched job. She has to use drops to drive at night. She's pretty unhappy about the whole thing,.
