I'm going to Vegas April 8 to watch Floyd Mayweather vs. Zab Judah. I know this sounds dumb, but what else is there to do in Vegas besides gamble and watch the big match? I haven't been there in 9 years so I don't remember much. We saw Sigfried and Roy last time and went to Circus Circus. I'm staying in MGM Grand by the way...
Clubs: Pure @ Caesars Jet @ Mirage Tryst @ Wynn Rain @ The Palms Lounges: Tangerine @ T.I. Ghost Bar @ The Palms Sportsbook: Mandalay, Mirage, or Bellagio Dining: Delmonico's Steakhouse in the Venetian Bertolini's - Caesars Forum Shops Spago's (Puck) - Caesars Forum Shops Aladdin Spice Food Market Buffet Rio Seafood Buffet Bellagio Breakfast Buffet Free Entertainment: lions @ MGM white tiger @ Mirage birds @ Flamingo Sirens - Treasure Island Fremont St. Experience (downtown Vegas)
very well spoken. I'd suggest Mandalay's sports book of the 3 if you have a group of people over 2..and definitely if it's over 4.
Man, there is so much to do in Vegas besides gamble. One thing you should definitely do is go down to the Stratosphere and pay to go up to the top of the thing at night. If you are into roller coasters, you have to ride the big shot, X-Scream, and Insanity. Skip the "High Roller" roller coaster, it's one of the lamest rides around. Even if you aren't into rides, the view from the Stratosphere is absolutely amazing at night. Also, if you haven't been downtown since they have redone Fremont Street, you definitely need to check that out. Even if you've been a long time ago, you should check it out again, as they have drastically improved the quality of the sound and video on the canopy. I think shows start around 7 or 8 at night and run every 15 or 30 minutes. Really fun party atmosphere...Plus the limits downtown are really cheap. There are tons of great places to eat in Vegas. Check out the buffet at the Aladdin, Bellagio, or Wynn, as they are all excellent. If you've never had Fatburger or In-N-Out, check those out for a quick lunch. Fatburger is on the strip next the M&M/Coca Cola store and right next to a McDonald's. They might have the best fast food burger I've ever consumed. Their Onion Rings & Milkshakes are awesome as well. You should also check out the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace...you might not be able to actually afford to shop there, but there are some pretty neat things to look at. My favorite is this exotic car & motorcycle store they have down by the Nike Shop & Cheesecake Factory. You will see cars that are on sale for 300-400 thousand. Ferraris, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, every exotic car you can think of. There are a ton of neat things to look at in there. For shows, I would recommend the Blue Man Group if you want to see something a little different than the typical vegas show. I saw it 2 years ago when they were at the Luxor and had a blast. I think they moved to the Venetian... Also, the MGM Grand has a pretty nice pool area, you should just go back there and stare at all the hotties, even if you don't want to swim! There's lots more I can think of, but I won't waste your time...
You should also take a tour of the Hoover Damn. It was pretty interesting. There are helicopter rides you can take as well.
Tao at the Venitian is the new 'hip' restaruant/lounge/club. Mix on top of Mandalay Bay is a cool place too. Beers are $7 bucks though
Plus you can ask all the dam questions you want, like "Where's the dam bait?" Rain kicks ass. Last time I went to Vegas a group of us (about 7 or 8) got suited up and went to Rain and got into the VIP area. If you look important and sit in the important area, something to do will find you.
If you've never been to Vegas it can be fun just walking through some of the more elaborate casinos like Paris or New York New York. They're really over the top with the whole theme thing.
There are all the shows. Cirque du Soleil (sp?), those are everywhere. Other magicians (Lance Burton at Monte Carlo is good). Comedian regulars. A few casinos have large malls to walk around in, just look around, shop if you feel the need. There's always a show, so I'd look into that. Blue Man group is pretty cool.
Baqui knows his Vegas. Im a little surprised that Hard Rock hasnt been mentioned. That place is fun. Lots to see and do. Id also hit Freemont street for some CHEAP gambling and that old school Vegas vibe. 99 cent shrimp cocktail at Golden Gate is where its at!
Tabu at MGM is a nice lounge. I saw KA at the MGM last summer. Awesome show! Blue Man is good too and I heard that with their move to the Venitian, they were going to enhance their show. Ghost bar is the ****. Nice lounge with a cool vide. It seems that every hotel now has a club and ultra lounge. Bellagio has light and Caramel. Paris has Risque. Ceasars has Pure. MGM has Tabu and 54, plus another small lounge that I cannot remember the name of. Man I want to go back!!
OK...I'm not a Vegas pro...yet. I just moved to Henderson from Clear Lake about a month ago and am still exploring the area. One place that I like is the Green Valley Ranch (casino) area. It is located in an area called The District, which has lots of shops and restaurants within close walking distance. Also, if you're keen to snow, there's been recent snowfall on Mt. Charleston, which is about a 45 minute drive from Vegas and allows you to snow, snowboard or sled. If you're into food...there's a great Italian place on Trop(icana) and Maryland Parkway called Metro Pizza. If you're looking for any decent Mexican or Tex Mex, it does not exist in this town. If you're interested in travelling outside of Vegas, Laughlin is an interesting place. The only problem is that the only thing to do there is gamble. Laughlin is nice in the sense that several of the casinos are located on the Colorado River and it's really a nice place to hang out at night.
I've been wanting to go to Vegas with the woman for quite a few years.. Her and I both have never been.. can anyone give any recommendations on a good place to stay.. We both like to shop like crazy and eat good food, but not top of the line all the time(I got a few ideas from above).. I want to try all kinds of places.. Local food, buffets ex.. The woman might want a spa at the place to get a few things done.. like I said we've never been and I don’t want to take her with out knowing some of the good spots to go..
My wife and I like Danny Gans at the Mirage and O at Bellagio. If you have never been you can easily kill 2 days just walking up and down the strip and checking out all the different casinos. Take comfortable shoes.
I Ended up watching the fight at Thomas & Mack Center, stayed at MGM Grand, lost $40 on Zab Judah, went to Pure in Caesars Palace, saw the Forum Shops, the free water show at the Bellagio, New York New York, Tropicana, won lots of things at Circus Circus, and saw David Copperfield's show at the MGM, he is amazing. The MGM Buffet was something else. All I have to say is I want to go back!
the wife and I recently went to see "O" at Bellagio. incredible show. we sat 4th row center stage (friend is a pit boss at bellagio). tickets were $150 each but my folks got them as an anniversary present for us. if you have any kids then the adventuredome at Circus-Circus is like a mini-Astroworld indoors. offstrip casinos like southcoast, suncoast, greenvalley station are also nice if you want to gamble in more of a casual/local's atmosphere. i love downtown casino's atmosphere for "old vegas". also the new RedRock Casino is opening tonight and will likely be gorgeous (but it's really offstrip so you would need a car).
The only problem I have with the older or off-strip casinos is that they usually were built back in the day with lower ceilings. Casinos are one of the last places where you can smoke indoors everywhere, and people take advantage of that. Older casinos always tend to be FILLED with smoke. I like the newer casinos with nice high ceilings so the smoke rises and they have state of the art air exchangers that move that air in and out of the building quickly. Just easier to breathe.
