I would like to express my frustration and anger on Larry Smith. Yes, he's an assistant coach with no coaching experience, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that you have to have Yao play most of the 4th quarter. By the time Yao comes in the 4th quarter, it's too late. The offense is confused. Role players are taking shots like they are the first options. Every team's star player should be attempting the most shots. Last Night's game, Star players field goal attempts Knicks: Houston-27, Sprewell-13 Hornets: Masburn-20, Davis-15 Jazz: Malone-24 Suns: Marbury-22, Marion-17 Celtics: Piece-14, Walker-19 Pacers: ONeal-12, Miller-10 Grizzles: Gasol-19, JWilliams-12 Magic: McGrady-18 Sonic: Allen-21, RLewis-17 Warrior: Jamison-21, Richardson-19 Rockets: Griffin-13 in 17 mins, Taylor-13, Mobley-12 Yao-9, Francis-10 At times, there are a few time wehre rockets looks unbeatable and there are alot of times where you just want to break the tv set. If the offense run thru Yao, no one cuts and the offense are stagnant. If the offense doesnt run thru Yao, it's iso. There were times Yao were hot and were taken out of the game and were put in the late 4th quarter. Opposing guards are blowing by our guards and our big men draws a foul or being dunked on. At this point, I rather the Rockets don't make the playoffs. Since they are out of the playoff picture, they should try to experiment with some new offensive and defensive sets. Change the lineup and give players like Boki some minutes. He can be our Preja of rockets future.
This is actually predicated by the other team. They were DARING EG and Cat to shoot, and of course our guys are happy to oblige. DD
Its like when your real teacher in school is away and a substitute comes in, the kids act very badly and treat the sub like shat. See Caturnover and co..
I like that analog Dan. But we also accused Rudy of this same thing of players taken advantage of him and the coach not discipling them thereafter. I think the players are trying to to the right things to win, but the coach we have is just disrupting any offensive rhythm we're tryining to establish. As soon as a player gets hot (Taylor, Ming, or Rice) and brings us back into the game or Yao Ming has a big block against an opposing teams center or PF plugging a spark of emotion on the court for the Rockets, they get taken out, and put players that didn't have any rhythm to the game and on the defensive end. This is where we always get beat at in coaching.
Mr. Mean is not really mean at all... It's one thing to be an asst. and a totally other thing to be a coach with all eyes upon you... LS will get better, however, it is unfortunate that this is the part of the season he had to learn...
RJ, you took the words right out of my mouth. "Mr Mean" is not really mean enough on the players in such that he's not really lighting a fire under their behinds to go out and play hard and smart. Especially when it comes to defense where most of the time, the opposing three point shooters are wide open and its so easy for their defenders to guard as, especially when we ISO one-on-one, because NO ONE on our team moves without the ball, just waiting for it to come to them. Not hussling and when no one comes to the ball and just standing there, when the player that was isolating attempts a shot and misses, there's no hope of an offensive rebound because all the other 4 players are standing like statues at the three point line. Maybe when Rudy comes back, things could be a little different, but I think we need another year of practice if we're going to do damage in the playoffs.
