Ewing on the TV show Dallas, died Friday at a Dallas hospital. He was 81. Mr. Hagman died at 4:20 p.m. Friday at Medical City Dallas Hospital from complications of his recent battle with cancer, members of his family said. “Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most,” the family said in a statement. “Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. RIP. He was a cultural icon and I remember hearing somewhere that personally he was nothing like his character JR Ewing but a very nice and humble guy.
Very very sad. Some of my best memories of my father (rest in peace) was watching Dallas in the 80's/90's with him. He just got such a kick out of ol J.R. Such a shame they waited so long to restart the series up this past summer. I was looking forward to the new "Dallas" coming back on TV in January.
Don't worry. Tomorrow morning it will turn out that he's fine, and Victoria Principal dreamed the whole thing. RIP Mr. Hagman
The first prime time villain, and there's never been one better at it. It's a pity that the new series didn't get started sooner. It's just not Dallas without Hagman.
Actually, a lot of people die at 4:20, because the ambulance drivers, nurses and doctors are stoned out of their mind.

"I liked it because it was fun, it made me feel good, and I never had a hangover.".[21] Although Hagman said he no longer smoked mar1juana and was on a "Twelve-Step Program", he explained, "mar1juana is like being compared to alcohol and when you come right down to it, alcohol destroys your body and makes you do violent things, but with grass, you just sit back and enjoy life." Too bad. Saw him in "Mother, Jugs and Speed;" dude had a lot more range than his post-Dallas work would have indicated, even though there was some pretty good stuff there as well (Nixon, Primary Colors). Even though J.R. was a full-on stereotype of a group that's mostly lawyers, accountants, engineers and actually disproportionately non-Texan, it was still amusing and entertaining.
