i have an hp laptop and the ac adapter connection seems to be loose and not my lap top is not turning on or charging at all. this is the second time this has happened. The first time i sent it in to hp while it was still under warranty and it was repaired and sent back. does anyone have advice on what i should do now to get this fixed at the most cost efficient manner? thanks

This happened to my old Toshiba, and I had to replace the motherboard. Instead, I just bought a new Dell, the best decision I've made in a while, since it was going to cost around $500 to replace the motherboard.

if it aint under warranty, call em up and extend it.... they usually give you a leeway of a few months

then send it in for repair after a few days.

It might be your battery. If it is the connection, it means it's lose on the motherboard and will probably need to be re-soldered. I'm not experienced with that type of repair, so I can't really tell you how much it would cost.

People still solder? Wow, I've been in the IT industry for 7+ years and have yet to see a soldering iron in use. With that said, back in 1997 when I was in college I took a class "quality hand soldering" that was a required course for my degree... needless to say two weeks into the semester I dropped the course, dropped out of college and got a job making more then most college graduates doing PC rollouts. University MIS degrees are pretty much worthless, and always waay out of date.

Anyway, back to the problem at hand... If the power connection on your laptop is loose you need a new system board (good luck finding someone who solders and tests to fix it). Check ebay for a "parts" laptop like your model, can get them fairly cheap or extend your warranty and go that route, or... simly buy a new 500 buck laptop.
