If he can get a good 3pt shot, and we get someone who is willing to drive to the basket, then just imagine our PnR's....

Hes trying to turn into a small forward, he defenitely has the skills to.

Passing, 3 pointers, and shooting off the dribble.

Interesting tidbit about the 3 pointer practice. Although I think it's more important to develop his face-up game from 15 and in. An automatic midrange jumper + face up driving ability would take his game to the next level. Just look at David West.

that could be a very apt comparison of his max potential

I think that after Al Horford, (Greg Oden?) this guy is the best big man of the next sophmores.

Has all the tools, around the basket, shot, athelticism and we're lucky to pick him up, remember Rockets could choose Big Baby and heck that wouldn't be even bad but Landry suits Rockets far more better.

It would be shame that he leaves but I think he'll ask for more money but every penny is worth it.

Yeah, he's gonna say that no matter what. Hopefully it's not substantiable, just like the whole Amir Johnson thing was last year in Detroit.

IIRC there have been trades in the past that were agreed upon by teams a couple of month or weeks before they were possible.

Landry's max is the MLE because of the Gilbert Arenas rule. The Rockets have the last say on whether he stays or goes.

I'm sure the Warriors would love to finally have a real PF on their roster. If they are willing to pay up to the full MLE. Then their $9M TE would make Landry's BYC status a non-issue in a trade.

The Warriors hold the 14th draft pick. Whoever they pick (or pick for) doesn't have to be signed immediately meaning on July 1st they could still have that player's draft rights ready to trade...

if we have to sign him for the mle... fine, be that way, especially since there really was no one that is worth the mle any more than landry does. :( all the players we want, are looking for more than the mle, so we have to do it by trade.

so if he does sign the mle... that means he is getting paid that all the 1st rounders? wow, what a lucky b*stard. get pick in the 2nd round so you can get paid 5 million in your 2nd year. not bad.

i don't believe any team will offer landry a full mle contract. but if that's the case, we just have to let him walk then.

Whatever Landry can do to make him a good fit around Yao is key. And range shooting would do just that. It doesn't even have to be 3pt range, but just solid mid-range. Creating his own shot would put him on another level. Landry should look at David West as the model.

Landry's agent was tough last year. He sqawked quite a bit before we signed Landry. Negotiations this time might be tough as well. But we still have the upper hand.

I am sure Landry's agent will look at the kind of deal Amir Johnson and Andray Blache got last year. Hopefully the Rockets won't have to pay 4M per for Landry's services. Perhaps we can do that LLE with a PO for the 2nd year and then look to give Landry more money after he gets another year under his belt.

I might be in the minority here, but I really don't think we need to do alot in the offseason. We won 55 games and 22 in row, and alot of key players were injured in the playoffs...

I think we need to find a lowly priced third scorer and backup pg and scorer for the bench and that's about it. I would even consider getting Gerald Green back.

We really don't need another big, if Mutombo comes back. We're going to have too many players.

(Most Likely to come back, very unlikely to be gone in the offseason)
    Yao
    T-Mac
    Scola
    Battier
    Landry
    Alston
    Hayes
    Mutombo
    Novak
    ----------------
    (50/50)
    Jackson
    Head
    Woods

I would say one or two minor changes, we probably should've been Utah.... we can't seem to stay health enough for extended run.

If he does leave, the Rockets have to get some kind of value out of him in a SnT. It would be devastating to lose him for nothing. If it wasn't for the injuries I would prefer him to Scola.

The buzz can mean a few lottery teams in the east called to see if he would sign for 1/3 of the MLE, and a promise of more playing time. Morey will work something reasonable.

Landry's agent is an amateur. This is not going to be a repeat of the superagent David Falk mess and overpaying players.

I'd be shocked if someone offered Landry the full MLE. He is good, but not worht anywhere near that much yet. In 2-3 years he could be worth that or much more, depending on how much he grows.

Remember though, how he looked when he tweaked his knee. For over a month he just didn't look anywhere near what he should be.

People use the full MLE on proven players, not rookies with injury concerns that have some potential.

Now, we will definitely have to dish out some money for him though. that's ok though, i don't mind if they pull out the wallet some for him, he does have potential, let's just not overpay an undersized forward that relies on athleticism and has injury concerns.
