Anyone else catch Lance Z this morning floating out his suspicions that Bagwell did steroids? What's become of the self appointed Defender of the Player?
I, for one, feel that the Clutch BBS should come to the support of Bagwell. Lance's views are based on hearsay, and entirely unfounded. Booooooo-urns!
Did the Babe use steroids? Who's a better hitter--Bagwell or Gonzo? Bagwell or Brady Anderson? If Bagwell were juicing, wouldn't he have seen a similar spike in production to what Bonds, Sosa, McGuire, Anderson, etc. saw? Bags's numbers were pretty much even until the shoulder started falling off. He never hit 50. I'm not saying he absolutely didn't; I'm saying there's as compelling of an argument that he has *less* in common with the juicers as there is that he may have juiced. And my point is, none of us know.
Of course there are suspicions...of every single MLB player that has played in the last 30+years. So what? Bagwell's admitted as much, that he & everybody else gets lumped together. The MLBPA & MLB brought this upon themselves. Focus on the game, ignore the sideshow.
the self-righteousness of the media on this issue is out of control. lupica on sports reporters yesterday was saying he doesn't care if people don't care its their duty to report the story. they were talking about the guys who wrote the bonds book possibly facing jail-time for the illegal leaks of the grand jury testimony. he says they're the good guys. I was like excuse me, first of all the media's whole deal is that steroids were illegal, yet when their professional brotheren do something illegal to get their job done its alright? not to mention the fact that these guys wrote this book for money if i'm not mistaken. then they try to lump the kids in. I'm sorry, when I was in h.s. in the late eighties early nineties kids were on roids. I was talking to a guy who graduated a year before me and we were talking about the football players on roids at our h.s.
I've read the same charges leveled at so many stars. Basically every power hitter in the game in the past 10 years is tainted by suspicion. And not just hitters, Canseco mentioned Clemens in his book. We're all just lucky that Biggio lacks bulk and doesn't hit 30+ homers, or he'd be under suspicion too.
Yeah, the one guy who said this was worse than the Black Sox scandal slayed me. I can't remember the guy's name, though. Eh, they aren't jerks to the media. Yep. We had a few Katy football players that attended our church in the mid to late-80s. It was amazing to see how different they looked when they came back for Christmas break.
Definitely Clemens. Biggio bulked up a bunch from his early years to the mid-late 90's. So did Ricky Henderson. Why not him too? Also remember that all the players caught under MLB's new testing regimen are speedy OF types (Alex Rios etc...) and middle relievers, so where do the "suspicions" end? And to what point?
