Lance Armstrong made overtures to USADA regarding confession; dialogue now closed Disgraced cycling champion Lance Armstrong has authorized overtures to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency about the possibility of coming forward to acknowledge his use of performance-enhancing drugs during his career, according to a source who confirmed a report that initially appeared in the New York Times. full article
I think he's doing this in hopes of being reinstated for competing in triathlons. (confirmed by the article)
I don't think he can really confess though because he has testified under oath that he did not take PEDs. I think he would be pretty well screwed because I suspect the justice department might reopen it's case -- meaning several more years of court battles, money, and a likely conviction.
Then he is incredible stupid I cheated forever .. . so let me in your sport . . yea. . that make's sense! Rocket River
I think he's doing it cause he is watching his legacy and financial security be totally destroyed. Livestrong has totally erased him, his titles are gone, and his endorsements are no more. It was pretty crazy to see the Lance Armstrong 24 Hour Fitness by my house completely remove him after he was booted by Livestrong. They remodeled that place QUICK! I don't feel bad for the guy at all. I've heard all the stories around Austin how he is a total dick. At least guys like Bonds and Clemens are well liked where they live....not so much for Armstrong.
I've spent time with a few social circles that have hung out with him numerous times and he is an ******* -- there is no debate about that. On a personal note we share the same doctor who detected his cancer and was interviewed on ABC after his first tour win... (Lance is an jackass).
He's a selfish jackass prick. My aunt lives in Austin and is connected to his wife. Lance's wife stood by his side and helped him tremendously get through his journey with cancer. After he was cured, healthy, and famous he dumped his wife and started dating celebrities like Cheryl Crow and Kate Hudson. When Cheryl Crow got diagnosed with cancer he dumped her, didn't want anything to do with it. Then he attacked the character of all his accusers and teammates when they were honest about the doping. It's not that cheating made him a bad person, it's the way he handled it and the way he handled other areas of his life that show what a true piece of garbage he is. And he's only coming forward now for his own benefit. I still CANNOT believe that some of you defend him.
If he can be honest himself, he'll be a lot happier. And that truth is that he probably used, and he probably felt he had to do it. The real question is are these things bad for your health or not. Or are they just performance enhancing. Because ultimately, that is what this is all about. And what sport has not yet arrived at, and nobody knows the answer to, are these rules about health of the athlete or competition. And that's the truth sport needs to ask itself and answer. As it it to need to figure out what the truth is there.
Word is that Lance is going to go on with Oprah here in the near future. Hard to imagine that he is going to go on such a high-profile show and continue to deny. I think this might be his confession coming up.
I still see nothing classy about it. Sure, they all used, but most of them were disgraced and quietly left the spotlight. I figured his team was protecting him because of his popularity. He denied it, lied about it, made money off his clean image. No surprise that the day came when he got caught. Now that denial isn't working, he is playing his cards carefully with the press, "considering a confession". No doubt he will sell that to Oprah or the highest bidder. He will continue to profit from his fame and will then use some apology story, which he has had plenty of time to prepare and rehearse, to get the public sympathy and make even more money off that.
Just came across ESPN ticker that he'll confess on Oprah. **** that guy, gonna clown so many people then thinks going on Oprah will lighten the backlash he'll receive. P.o.s.
I thought Oprah's show wasn't on the air anymore. Guess they'll do a Barbara Walters type special for this? I watched the piece on 60 Minutes Sports last night that covered Armstrong and the whole PED operation his team was running. Great piece, highly recommend catching it if you have Showtime.
Fantastic post. I don't think he will show humility or honest remorse. He has been too aggressive in his lying ways for too long. This is purely a calculated move.
Way too late for a confession now -- he's screwed and I wouldn't be surprised if the justice department opens their case again. He's definitely lied under oath more than once.
Yep - what is a confession worth after you have already been caught and EVERYONE already knows you have been lying, cheating, defrauding, mobbing for more than 20 years? Nothing. It's like trying to call it a draw when you have already lost.
