Seeing how valuable expiring contracts were at the trading deadline, I was thinking about how we could make a big splash. The Lakers are crap, and could use some re-tooling. If they continue to suck into next year, I would like to see the rockets try to pry Lamar Odom off their hands. He is injury prone and a little light for a PF, but his athleticism, scoring, and passing impresses me. The rockets could trade Howard and the expiring contracts (Spoon, Wesley, Moochie, Baker) for Odom and Brian Grant. Grant's contract is really bad, but it is only for 2 more years. The Lakers would luck out with capspace, and we would get a legit PF and 3rd scorer. I wish this deal could go down during the offseason, but I doubt the Lakers would want junk like spoon, moochie, and baker on their squad for the entire season. What do you guys think?

It took you 5 months to post?

And this won't happen... it won't even be talked about.

Obviously a good trade for us but it won't happen. The Lakers would be stupid to do it because they can get a lot more for Odom if they decide to trade him. I hope they keep him because he and Kobe can't stand each other and the distraction would hurt the Lakers next year.

    My free advice to you:
Dont kid yourself like that. Find humor elsewhere. Life is full of laughters if you look for 'em hard enough.

    you are welcome.

Am I the only person who isn't even sure that trade would make us better?

Odom is redundant with McGrady. He's like pretty much the same player - except worse in every way. We need another scorer - but either a tough PF or a 3 point marksman (of the Ray Allen ilk, though obviously nto Allen himself).

    So:

    (1) LA wouldn't do it.

    (2) Odom would be a terrible fit.

Lakers can get players like Peja or maybe even Artest for Odom. Why would they want our junk. No way they do that deal.

For some reasons everytime I saw a trade thread which involves Odom, it reminds me of a poster named Charvo. By the way, where is the guy now? His opinions is quite entertaining.

I like Odom too and I think he would be a great fit on this team as a SF/PF type and allow Tmac to move back to SG.

That would make us alot bigger and I hope we can still sign a solid PF type with the MLE.

    wow think about a

    BSura / MJames
    Tmac / JBarry / Span
    LOdom / Tmac / SPadgett
    JHoward / SPadgett / MBadiane
    Yao / Deke

The Lakers could use the extra cap space they get from our expiring contracts to go after Yao Ming. Talk about a trade that could come back to slap you in the face.

I actually think Odom would be the perfect 3rd option on this team. If there's anything the Dallas series exposed, it's how few playmakers are on this team. Dallas had 5 players on the floor all able to create plays for themselves and for each other. Houston had a grand total of one (Mcgrady), MAYBE two, but it's hard for Yao to be a playmaker when it's so difficult to get him the ball.

All series long, I was begging for someone other than Tmac to take the ball to the basket, but there was nobody else on this team able to penetrate and create. I could easily see Odom driving to the basket and feeding Yao for the open dunk, the way Tmac was able to do.

Plus he would solve our rebounding problem, he gives Mcgrady someone that can run up and down the floor with him, and he's the perfect type of player to make the entry pass to Yao.

Having said all that, there's no way LA is giving him up for anything the Rockets have.

The Lakers suck to bad to ship out Odom without something sexy in return. I don't see this happening at all.

While it isn't much of a fair trade, more lopsided ones have occured recently in the league. If it were to somehow come to pass, it'd be good for the Rockets. Having two guys who are tall, athletic, can score, can pass, can handle the ball, can rebound -- well redundency isn't a problem with that skillset.

only crappy, low market teams trade for expiring contracts. no way a high profile team like the lakers give up on a season and clear cap space.

Almost no chance in hell of getting Lamar Odom without giving up a lot of future #1 picks. And why would the Lakers go for that anyway? That team has the pressure of not sucking. They missed the playoffs and are now desperate to get back to winning ways.

If they can get excellent value for Lamar Odom, they will; and they'd look to the teams willing to overspend for their roster (Dallas, New York, Portland, etc) for such value.

The Lakers need to balance out that roster of 10 small forwards and shooting guards. I'd think that Caron Butler would be easiest to ship out.

We have Tracy and Yao (untouchable) and, after that, not much else in trade bait.

    Pretty much.

Dr. Jerry Buss is too proud of an owner to not learn from his mistakes (and the mistakes of those he employs). Speaking of which, if they traded away Odom for our junk that would leave them with what exactly to show for trading away Shaq? Uh, Caron Butler and Brian Grant plus whatever we would give them. Good move.
