Strong rumor. Contract apparently at $40 million for 4 years. http://www.faniq.com/article/Lamar-Odom-to-resign-with-Lakers-1746454
if this is true no biggie i never seriously though Odom was going to leave the lakers now there a few things to arise out of this though that makes me still skeptical until a latimes/espn/yahoo news source confirms this apparently buss put several 3 year deals on the table which odom rejected and then went up to 30 million for 3 years and then buss retracted that offer feeling it was overpaying. so if he retracted a 30/3 offer why would he then agree to a 40/4 offer. that makes no sense to me if I was buss if anything if Odom wanted that 4 year deal so bad then make it 32/4 years or 36/4 years. sounds like Odom and his agent got the better of buss in the end. also the lakers are the heavy favorites to repeat again this year but now that odom and artest (two skilled knuckleheads who appropriately are good friends) do not have a contract to play for will they be less vocal about their role on the team? Odom sacrificed a lot coming off the bench and gave up what could have been a great statistical year for him (and hence bigger pay day) for the lakers to low ball him after he sacrificed I can understand why he would be made at the initial offers by the lakers. now that he is going to get paid will he be happy with the minutes off the bench? will any of his desire to play more (which was one of the reason given why miami was a chance) become more vocal now that he has a personality that can be as vocal as kobe in artest? chances are the lakers will defend their title but i dont think the chemistry will be as good this year as it was last year. i think buss/kupchak handled the offseason with odom pretty badly
Luxury tax will be steep next year close to $25 million. Lakers wouldn't mind paying but damn thats huge money. This will come to bite back in 2-3 years with Odom, Artest and Bynum making 30 million combined.
I think they overpaid him at his age and level of production, but they are overpaying to keep their championship core.
Ya Think? The question is how long will it take for their budget crisis to enact the inevitable, just revenge. One season? two? Methinks they are favorites all through 09/10, and 40% chance they repeat. Their overpriced core will decay/fossilize from 10/11 on, and a Bynum or Odom deportation seems inevitable.
"Solid sources have suggested to Ireland that LO's agent suggested he accept the 3yr-$30M deal w/#Lakers. It was Odom who turned it down" http://twitter.com/LAMase -LA's pre-game host...
No excuse for Kuptchak's brain freeze. Sorry but Odom is pretty replaceable in this league thats why he got bouced around from team to team. 10 million for a role player is too much when Ariza the bigger contributor on that team. Should have traded him to Miami for some young talent and prospects. Now the question is which one of their bad investments will be the starter, Artest or Odom? Don't tell me Bynum is still not a consistent starter at 15 mil a season.
Why would LO start? How are they bad investments when the season is yet to be played. Ariza contributed more? Did you watch him during the season, very incosistent at times - just very huge during the playoffs.
Well, that's what everyone in the league is hoping that happens, including us, since we basically just swapped Artest for Ariza.
No one on lakersground believes this rumor, fyi. Just saying they are bashing it there: http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=94272&start=3950 Either way, since it is just a rumor can we at least change the thread title to note that?
Can you pretty please tell me a guy that has the length, size and skill set that Odom has? The problem with Odom is that sometimes he plays down to is competition. Sure 10 million for him at his age is a little steep, but to say that he is "pretty replaceable" is incorrect.
Blacksportsonline, that's the website that said Yao Ming was having sex with the girl from Fresh Prince, respectable indeed.
If this is true then Odom stalling and entertaining offers of other teams worked in his favor. Lucky for him that He did not end up like Sprewell and Bonzi.
Ariza was NOT the bigger contributor on that team. Not even close. For a team like the Lakers, I don't think this is that bad a deal, especially for what Odom can bring to the table. He's long, plays good D, can run the floor and finish, shoot the 3, rebound.....he's one of a few well rounded players. He's turning 30 this year, so 4 years isn't that bad. I think he played his hand well in getting another year.
