ORLANDO, Fla. — Kobe Bryant is often compared to Cleveland’s LeBron James and has a long rivalry with past animosity with Boston’s Ray Allen. But if Orlando makes it back to the NBA Finals against the Lakers, we have Orlando’s Matt Barnes now as a person of Kobe’s interest.

Bryant smiled after the game Sunday and said he enjoyed Barnes’ competitive fire, which produced double technical fouls at one point and had Barnes bordering on ejection. But Barnes also caught the eye of Bryant’s teammate, Lamar Odom, who interjected while getting dressed after the game upon hearing Ron Artest asked by reporters about Barnes.

Odom yelled out that Barnes was “a monkey,” adding: “He picked the right game to act tough.”

Later, after most reporters had left him, I asked Odom for clarification on that “monkey” comment. Odom said it referenced rapper Rick Ross calling 50 Cent “a monkey” in their rivalry.

“That’s an inside joke,” Odom said. “The rappers that are feuding with each other, Rick Ross and 50 Cent … they’re feuding with each other. That’s an inside joke with this team. Matt Barnes is a cool dude. If I call him a monkey, I don’t mean it. If I call him a superhero or a wrestling figure, I don’t mean it.

“He did what he had to do. He played a great game. He got the crowd involved. Basketball’s entertaining, as well. He did a great job for his team today.”

Odom had also kidded that Barnes should’ve played with a cape on and compared him to wrestler Ric Flair, who showed up with the public-address microphone Friday night in Charlotte with the Lakers in town, for hyping up the crowd.

Lamar Odom is a loser who would barely be in the league if not for Kobe.

What do rappers feuding with each other have to do with pothead calling Barnes a monkey? And what is the "right game" to act tough?

kobe is compared to lebron eh. I think it should be the other way around considering lebron has 0 rings, and kobe has 4.

Edit : On that one.

Odom is not some bum NBA player who was nothing before going to the Lakers.

Sure he has never consistently lived up to his potential but he was nowhere near being close to being out of the league before coming to the Lakers.

The entire Lakers team is just a Hollywood sideshow. When I saw an NBA.com headline saying "Lakers fighting complacency", I was firmly convinced the Lakers are not a real competitive athletes with any pride.

That said, Matt Barnes can be a punk on the court too. It was a match made in heaven.

Looks like Kobe will have another reason to use his trademark scowl.

Fisher took a cheap shot at Barnes late at that game too.

I never feel sorry for the Fakers especially Fisher.

LOL...I didn't realize there would be Odom supporters in here. Obviously I exaggerate. I can't bring myself to say anything positive about any of the Fakers.

It was his running out of bounds on the fast break that helped the Rockets win one last series. He's probably the least offensive guy to me on that team; a dummy among dickheads.

Just because Battier has a long-term terrible contract doesnt make him better(who gave him that CD?). If he was a free agent right now,Morey would low balled his ass . SOmething like veteran's minimum.
